China says it ‘drove away’ US destroyer​

The Chinese military “drove away” a US destroyer reportedly sailing near the Paracel (Xisha) Islands in the South China Sea, The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theatre Command said on Wednesday.
Beijing claims the guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold “illegally trespassed into Chinese territorial waters”. In response “the PLA’s Southern Theatre Command organized sea and air forces to follow, monitor, warn and drive away” the ship, according to a PLA statement.

China demands Biden admin cancel $108 million arms sale to Taiwan​

The Chinese Communist Party’s Ministry of National Defence demanded President Joe Biden’s administration immediately cancel an estimated $108 million arms sale to Taiwan, a Chinese state broadcaster reported on Monday, according to Reuters on Monday.
The demand comes three days after the Pentagon announced that the U.S. State Department had approved the “possible” multi-million dollar sale to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States. Taipei is the capital city of Taiwan.

BEIJING (AP) — China will take “resolute and strong measures” should the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi proceed with reported plans to visit Taiwan, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

Looks like AP picked this up also. Be interesting to see what the military does, on both sides, with a high ranking US official there. Might be allot of fingers on triggers pointing at each other. 🤷‍♂️

The report cited six people familiar with the Chinese warnings as saying they were significantly stronger than the threats that Beijing has made in the past when it was unhappy with U.S. actions or policy on Taiwan, which is claimed by China.

Meanwhile Tiwains capital of Taipei staged its annual air raid drills on Monday, as its leader warned the drums of war are growing louder by the day. Air raid sirens were sounded in Taipei and the military was holding its annual multi-day Han Kuang drills, including joint air and sea exercises and the mobilization of tanks and troops. Police directed people to shelters when a siren went off shortly after lunchtime. Streets emptied and shops closed.
