USS Santa Fe (SSN 763)

Could be a simple crew change and food replenishment. I understand they have two separate complete crews for those boats. Blue and Gold I believe. For a quick turnaround like that tensions are high and the axis powers must have allot of boats at sea that need to be tracked.

If you look at ship sightings for the boat. It’s been in and out of S Diego numerous times last two months. It’s just crew change and work up before new deployment

Historically we shadowed Soviet missile boats with our attack boats, in the event things went sour we would be well positioned to eliminate them under the right circumstances. This effectively made their boomers useless due to the technology gap between our navies
All it takes is for one to slip through undetected to do massive damage to this country.
"Russian nuclear submarine of the Borey project (according to other sources, it was an Akula project submarine), approached the US coast unnoticed. It was possible to establish the whereabouts of the nuclear submarine with up to 160 nuclear warheads on board after the sub started going back to the base. A submarine of this class is capable of destroying most of the territory of the United States of America in minutes."

Absolutely William, if one gets by in a doomsday scenario we are thoroughly boned. You do have to agree that Russian military dogma and equipment have failed to impress. Their current boat classes are mostly very old and very well studied by western tacticianers and engineers for years. It is prudent to consider the possibility and not be caviler in our assessments.

Very true considering it wasn't that long ago English and American navies couldn't detect Russian sub while actively searching. And were shocked when they realised. Probably due to it running on electric or aip as it went between them and at a distance came up for communications antenna or periscope once passed at a distance to say he he he.

As I said above, I have nothing but conjecture to base my assessment on. I'd be very interested if you have further related info though.

Unfortunately not computer savvy but hey if you find that hard to believe check out 2005 exercise with a small diesel Sweden sub and your mighty new aircraft carrier and support ships and subs. Surely if Sweden can do it. 🤣😂🤣 twice. I think Russia or China could just as easily. Luckily it was only exercised. You can check rueters, u tube etc. They posted it everywhere in celebration.

I think you misunderstand me. This is no bragging contest and I absolutely do not want a US/Russia confrontation. Ill check that swedish incident out.

Diesel/electric subs have always and continue to be a significant threat. The Russian Akula class subs have always been one of Russias most formidable weapons.
No US sailor would ever rest easy with one around.
The Swedish boat has a really interesting air supply for its engine I see. It feeds liquid O2 so it doesn’t have to snorkel to charge its batteries.
Interesting

I remember when a Chinese boat got inside the escort screen a few years ago and freaked everybody out also.

I thought Russia kept most of their boomers under the arctic ice or close to home in carefully watched waters.

Excellent example of how vulnerable carrier's even with defence fleet and sub support can and is. And now more so with newer hyposonic missiles that aegis etc can't defend against.
