Diplomatic Frameworks Around Ukraine Peace Deal OR Ceasefire | Reports-(CLOSED)

To be clear: Putin has not 'agreed' to the U.S. proposal for a 30 day ceasefire. His proposal is entirely different and contains multiple additional conditions that Ukraine will almost certainly never agree to.It's incredibly important media communicates this accurately.

Putin is trying to obfuscate his refusal of the American proposal - by trying to add additional conditions he knows Ukraine will never accept - whilst outwardly giving the impression he is accepting the agreement.

And this is exactly the wrong way to report it. Putin hasn't agreed to the American proposal. He's attempting to propose his own ceasefire agreement.

Accepting the "idea" of a ceasefire is not accepting a ceasefire. As predicted, Russia is delaying.

Completely ridiculous demands. Let's see if the White House is stupid enough to swallow them.
"Putin ... said that Russia wants guarantees that Ukraine will not mobilize or train soldiers, as well as won't receive weapons during the 30-day ceasefire.".

No more lost territory, return of deported children — Kyiv names red lines for peace deal

Ukraine is ready to negotiate a peace deal with Russia, but remains firm on several key areas, the U.K. news outlet the Independent reported on March 16, citing senior Ukrainian officials.

Kyiv has agreed to accept a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire, provided Russia also abides by its terms. U.S. officials are currently negotiating with Moscow on the details of the proposal.

"We are really willing to make peace, but we need a long-lasting peace, not a short ceasefire," a high-level Ukrainian source told the Independent, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "We do not want our children fighting this battle."

Ukraine has four key terms that must be upheld in order for the full-scale war to end, sources said. These are:

According to Kremlin and US readouts of the call, the following was discussed (higlighted items are the ones I regard as important sticking points):
  • Immediate halt to attacks on energy infrastructure ("energy ceasefire")
  • Technical talks on implementation of maritime ceasefire, full ceasefire and permanent peace to get underway with the formation of the appropriate workgroups
  • Minor prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine (175 for 175)
  • The Kremlin stated that any peaceful solution to the conflict will require full cessation of all military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine (presumably including aid provided by countries other than the US)
  • The Kremlin furthermore demanded an end to general mobilization in Ukraine
  • Further unspecified steps towards normalization of Russia-US relations, including in the area of arms control
  • Vague statements concerning the need for peace in the Middle East
  • Assorted dyplomatic pleasantries
