Diplomatic Frameworks Around Ukraine Peace Deal OR Ceasefire | Reports-(CLOSED)

Donald J. Trump
My phone conversation today with President Putin of Russia was a very good and productive one. We agreed to an immediate Ceasefire on all Energy and Infrastructure, with an understanding that we will be working quickly to have a Complete Ceasefire and, ultimately, an END to this very horrible War between Russia and Ukraine. This War would have never started if I were President! Many elements of a Contract for Peace were discussed, including the fact that thousands of soldiers are being killed, and both President Putin and President Zelenskyy would like to see it end. That process is now in full force and effect, and we will, hopefully, for the sake of Humanity, get the job done!

According to Reuters citing Russia’s national daily newspaper Kommersant, Russian President Vladimir Putin would like U.S. President Trump to formally recognize Russia’s claim to all regions of Eastern Ukraine annexed in September 2022, including Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia, as well as the Crimean Peninsula, which was invaded and annexed by Russia in 2014. In exchange for the recognition, Putin has said that he would not lay claim to the Ukrainian port city of Odesa on the Black Sea and other territory in Ukraine. When asked, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that Putin had not discussed the idea with Trump during their call on Tuesday.

Despite U.S. President Donald J. Trump stating only roughly an hour before, that Russian President Putin had “agreed to an immediate Ceasefire on all (Ukrainian) Energy and Infrastructure” during their phone call today. The Russian Air Force reportedly carried out a glide-bomb attack on a power station near Sloviansk within the Donetsk Region of Eastern Ukraine, resulting in parts of the city and several nearby communities to be thrown into a blackout, all while dozens of drones targeted other cities and targets across Ukraine. I don’t see how this can be seen as anything other than blatant disrespect by Putin towards President Trump.

Just completed a very good telephone call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine. It lasted approximately one hour. Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs. We are very much on track, and I will ask Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, to give an accurate description of the points discussed. That Statement will be put out shortly.

President Donald Trump said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to a 30-day ceasefire of attacks on energy infrastructure during a call on Wednesday morning, describing the hour-long conversation as “very good” in a social media post and calling peace talks “very much on track.”

The call came a day after Trump’s lengthy conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who accepted the partial 30-day pause on attacking energy infrastructure but not the broader ceasefire that Ukraine and the U.S. had agreed to a week earlier.

I won’t say this is a definitive assertion of what might come regarding US direct involvement. So take it as possibly a simple observation of what could happen. So what message does this send to Putin. What message does this send to Europe and at home.

Look, we’re doing this – there are no Americans involved. There could be if you end up in World War III over this, which is so ridiculous,” the president explained.

“But, you know, strange things happen,” he warned.

It is an offhand comment and not a direct threat, a warning. But it is a warning that involves US troops involved in this fight.

"A certain form of cooperation with the U.S. regarding Ukrainian nuclear power plants could be beneficial to Ukraine in terms of the efficiency of the stations and their safety from Russian attacks," - believes the former Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine, Oleksiy Orzhel. Despite the restrictions in Ukrainian legislation regarding strategic facilities such as nuclear power generation, Donald Trump's idea to transfer Ukrainian nuclear power plants to the US may work if Trump himself becomes "a guarantee that our critical infrastructure, in particular energy, will not be destroyed by the Russians," he explained in an interview with DW. However, the mechanism of implementation of the plan raises many questions, notes Orzhel. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he did not discuss with Donald Trump the transfer of Ukrainian nuclear power plants to the US administration. "All nuclear power plants belong to the people of Ukraine. These are state nuclear power plants, they are not our private property,"

Zelenskyy said at a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Har Stere.
He also added that if the US is thinking about it, how to find a way out of the situation regarding control over the occupied ZNPP - "that's another issue." "If the Americans are thinking about how to find a way out of this situation, want to take it away from the Russians, want to invest, modernize - that's a different question, it's an open question, we can talk about it, but we definitely did not discuss the issue of property with President Trump," Zelenskyy stressed.

A meeting of military commanders of countries interested in participating in the Ukraine support coalition has been convened in Great Britain to develop an operational plan for the possible deployment of international forces to Ukraine.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the plan should be ready as soon as possible and in advance of the hoped-for ceasefire agreement.
"If the agreement is not supported by anything, then Putin will break it," Keir Starmer said on March 20..

In an unusually blunt statement, the leaders of the major EU powers declare that, in their opinion, "no real negotiations are taking place at the moment" on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, there is "no real will from Putin to stop this war", and Europe will continue to supply Ukraine with weapons going forward (source).

Ukraine's accession to NATO is no longer under consideration, said Secretary General Rutte.Let me remind you of the words that I said earlier. We either have NATO or nuclear weapons. We no longer have NATO. So we need nuclear weapons. There is no other option.

Who is "we"?

Is he suggesting Ukraine should get nuclear weapons?

Pretty much, yes. Might happen if there's a too half-assed effort for security guarantees in an eventual peace deal. Right now it just seems like Russia (and by extension Ukraine because of that) are playing a game of cat and mouse cozying up to Trump in order to seem like they are going for peace when they're not since they don't want additional US sanctions, and by extension Ukraine has to do the same thing since they don't want to lose US support, and they can't just stop defending themselves.

In a closed-door meeting Putin is said to have told Russian business leaders not to expect a quick peace deal with Ukraine.

Business executives and government officials participating in the meeting reportedly concluded from Putin’s remarks that U.S.-mediated negotiations would be "difficult and slow," despite the Trump administration’s optimistic public statements.

In Russia-Ukraine ceasefire talks, US technical team intends to meet with Ukrainian officials on Sunday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ahead of discussions on Monday with the Russians, people familiar with the situation told @kathrynw5 and me. SecState Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz aren't going to Saudi Arabia for this set of talks. If progress is made in Riyadh with Russian team, the US technical team may meet again with the Ukrainians' team later Monday as the Trump admin continues its shuttle diplomacy. @CBSNewst.
