PoK is flooded, emergency imposed; panic in Pakistan. A flood alert has been issued in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) due to the sudden rise in the water level of the Jhelum river. The Muzaffarabad district administration alleges that the Jhelum river has been moderately flooded due to India releasing more water than usual. This has created panic among the people of the area.
A flood alert has been issued in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) after the water level in the Jhelum river suddenly rose on Saturday afternoon. The administration has declared a water emergency in the Hattian Bala area, while local citizens have been warned to move to safer places.
According to local residents, the water level of the Jhelum river has risen rapidly, due to which there is an atmosphere of panic in areas like Gari Dupatta, Majhoi and Muzaffarabad. Warnings are being continuously broadcast from mosques.
Pakistani officials and locals have alleged that India released excess water from Anantnag into the Jhelum river without any prior notice, due to which the water entered PoK through the Chakothi border. Pakistan has called it a deliberate step taken by India.
