🕊️🇺🇳🇵🇸🇮🇱Gaza, UN Security Council Adopts The US Gaza Plan:

The UN Security Council has adopted the U.S. drafted Gaza resolution, endorsing President Trump’s 20 point plan and creating a new legal framework for post war governance and security in the Strip.

Key points:
♦️Resolution 2803 passed 13-0, with Russia and China abstaining.
♦️Authorizes an International Stabilization Force to provide security in Gaza and oversee demilitarization for a time limited mandate.
♦️Establishes a U.S. led “Board of Peace” as a transitional authority for governance and reconstruction, currently mandated through 2027.
♦️References a conditional pathway to eventual Palestinian statehood, tied to governance reforms, security benchmarks, and reconstruction progress.

Initial reactions:
♦️Palestinian Authority signals readiness to work within the new framework.
♦️Hamas rejects the resolution, opposes international “guardianship,” and refuses disarmament.
♦️Israeli officials are divided, with criticism focused on statehood language and perceived limits on operational freedom.
♦️Russia and China say their abstentions reflect concern over the U.N. role and elements they view as unbalanced, but they did not exercise a veto.

Medics in Gaza say at least 25 Palestinians were killed in four Israeli airstrikes in areas under Hamas control, despite the US backed ceasefire that has been in place since October.

Health officials report strikes in Gaza City (including the Zeitoun area and near Al Ahli Arab Hospital) and in Khan Younis, with images from Al Ahli showing mass casualty treatment and bodies at the hospital morgue.

The Israel Defense Forces state the strikes were a response to Hamas fire on Israeli troops, which they say violated the ceasefire. Reuters and other outlets frame the incident as a serious test of confidence in the truce that the new UN Security Council Gaza resolution is meant to stabilize.

NOTE: Based on Reuters reporting and local health authority statements. Casualty figures and location details are as reported by medical and hospital officials. IDF and Hamas positions on responsibility and targeting are attributed claims.

The National reports that mediation by Egypt, Turkey and Qatar over Hamas fighters stranded in tunnels under Israeli-held areas around Rafah has stalled, holding up the start of phase two of the US backed Gaza peace plan. According to sources cited in Cairo, Hamas has proposed that the fighters exit the tunnels and go into exile abroad, while Israel is demanding unconditional surrender and detention, and says it has already killed more than 30 militants attempting to flee. Disputes over disarmament, the composition of a technocrat committee to run Gaza, and the mandate of a planned international stabilisation force are also blocking movement to the next phase.

The Jerusalem Post reports, citing unnamed U.S. officials, that the planned International Stabilization Force (ISF) for Gaza is expected to begin deploying at the start of 2026.

Those officials told the paper the force is expected to start small, with personnel from only one or two countries initially, before potentially expanding as more contributors sign on.

NOTE: The early 2026 deployment timeline is consistent with separate reporting by AP and other outlets citing U.S. and Arab officials. The specific detail that the ISF would initially consist of troops from “one or two countries” is currently single source, based only on unnamed U.S. officials quoted by The Jerusalem Post.

Mar-a-Lago meet to test whether Trump feels same way about PM as president’s exasperated staff

US President Donald Trump is planning several major announcements on Gaza in early January, but the direction of the peace process hinges on his meeting Monday at Mar-a-Lago with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Axios reports.

According to the report, Trump’s team believes Netanyahu is delaying the Gaza ceasefire framework and could ultimately resume the war against Hamas, even as the Israeli leader seeks to persuade Trump himself to adopt a more hawkish approach.

Gaza ‘Board of Peace’ announced: Witkoff, Kushner among members

The White House announced Friday the composition of the “Board of Peace” tasked with implementing President Trump’s 20-point peace plan and steering Gaza’s postwar reconstruction.

The body, headed by Trump, will also include three of his closest diplomatic advisers — Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner — along with former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga and billionaire investors Robert Gabriel and Marc Rowan.

Trump this week announced the start of Phase 2 of his peace plan, which requires Hamas to disarm and Israel to draw back its troops from much of the Gaza Strip. While Hamas has said it will cede control to a technocratic government, it has shown no signs of disarming since a ceasefire was announced in October.

The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), which would effectively serve as the day-to-day administrator of the territory, is headed by Ali Shaath, a Palestinian engineer and former minister for the Palestinian Authority.

Shaath will work with the Gaza executive board, which includes members of the Board of Peace and additional members.

Along with Witkoff, Kushner, Blair and Rowan, the executive board includes: Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s minister of foreign affairs; Ali Al-Thawadi, a Qatari powerbroker who played a key role in negotiating the peace deal; Hassan Rashad, Egypt’s intelligence chief; Reem Al Hashimy, the Emirati minister of state for international cooperation; Nickolay Mladenov, a Bulgarian diplomat who previously served as U.N. special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process; Yakir Gabay, a Cypriot-Israeli real estate magnate; and Sigrid Kaag, a Dutch politician and the current U.N. special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.

Al Hashimy and Kaag are the only women on either board.

“Each Executive Board member will oversee a defined portfolio critical to Gaza’s stabilization and long-term success, including, but not limited to, governance capacity-building, regional relations, reconstruction, investment attraction, large-scale funding, and capital mobilization,” the White House said in a statement announcing the appointments.

Mladenov was also named the “High Representative for Gaza.”

“In this capacity, he will act as the on-the-ground link between the Board of Peace and the NCAG. He will support the Board’s oversight of all aspects of Gaza’s governance, reconstruction, and development, while ensuring coordination across civilian and security pillars,” the White House statement said.

Maj. Gen. Jasper Jeffers was appointed commander of the International Stabilization Force (ISF), “where he will lead security operations, support comprehensive demilitarization, and enable the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials,” it said.

Jeffers, a commander in the U.S. Special Operations Command Central, has helped oversee the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire amid the war in Gaza.

Serving as “senior advisers” to the Board of Peace are Aryeh Lightstone, the CEO of the Abraham Accord Peace Institute and a senior adviser to Trump’s former ambassador to Israel; and Josh Gruenbaum, the commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service within the General Services Administration.

“The United States remains fully committed to supporting this transitional framework, working in close partnership with Israel, key Arab nations, and the international community to achieve the objectives of the Comprehensive Plan,” the White House said.

The ceasefire announced in October has largely held, though Israel has killed more than 400 Palestinians in the ensuing months. The first phase of the peace plan is largely completed, apart from the return of one deceased hostage taken by Hamas.

However, Hamas has reasserted its control over much of the Gaza Strip in the ensuing months, raising doubts about its willingness to cede power under Trump’s peace plan.

“The U.S. expects Hamas to comply fully with its obligations, including the immediate return of the final deceased hostage,” Witkoff said this week upon announcing the launch of the plan’s second phase. “Failure to do so will bring serious consequences.”

Palestinian issue, a lot of Middle East governments talk, but do very little, and could actually care less unless they can use the Palestinian suffering to their advantage.
Heck, a lot of Iranians don’t care much for the Palestinian cause either. Hard to blame Iranian people when they’re dealing with water shortages and basic commodity problems, while their government spends what little the country generates on proxy groups instead of investing back at home.
A lot of Middle East governments use Palestinian suffering as a political tool for local points at home, but when it comes to real action, it’s usually the bare minimum, and sometimes not even that. They’ll condemn, posture, and grandstand, but they won’t take steps that cost them anything or create domestic risk.
