Iranian state media on Friday shared images of aircraft debris alongside claims that Iran had downed a U.S. F-35 fighter jet.
However, images of the aircraft’s tailfin, specifically the red stripe on its vertical stabilizer, are consistent with markings used by the 494th Fighter Squadron, 48th Fighter Wing, based at RAF Lakenheath.
Iran also shared an image of an Advanced Concept Ejection Seat allegedly from the shot down F-15E.

According to NBC News, two helicopters were hit. One of the two, carrying the pilot of the plane shot down by Iran and being rescued, was hit by small arms fire, wounding crew members, according to CBS. The helicopter landed safely, and the wounded are currently receiving treatment.

Iran also hit two UH 60 Blackhawk helicopters involved in the search and rescue, and the official said there were minor injuries to service members from that strike but all of them are safe.
In total, Iran has caused two military aircraft to crash — the F-15 and the A-10 — and hit two Blackhawk helicopters in a single day, less than 48 hours after President Trump said in his primetime address that Iran has been “completely decimated.”
