Buying .22LR ammo in USA?

I'm mostly looking for answers from the survivalists who might be on here.

I went to a guns store in Canada today and the owner told me there is a major shortage of .22LR ammo from US companies. Is it true that .22LR ammo is scarce in USA?

And, what do you think of stocking stuff like ammo? During hard days, it would be much more valuable than money or many things.

Someone more knowledgeable than me will give you a better answer, but I'll chime in. From what I recall, either the Feds or perhaps some states were trying to limit how much .22 ammo you could get, hence there was a huge run on the stuff before the bans came into effect. Wasn't in Bloomberg of NY who was spearheading that?

Again, my memory is really fuzzy on the subject.

And, what do you think of stocking stuff like ammo? During hard days, it would be much more valuable than money or many things.

I think it is a very good idea. If you don't have guns and ammo to protect your stuff, you'll lose it all to someone who does have the guns and ammo to take it away.

Despite the fact that I am only fifteen, I did some research and if you're looking for something for self-defense... .22LP might be the way to go... considering when fire, they provide low recoil, and make relatively low noise. However, the bullets have a short range... so if you were trying to take someone out from long-distance... probably not. Yet you can put a silencer on them and they (according to an incident regarding Israeli riot police) are much more lethal than they seem. However, there is a problem with its low power. So to review...
Pros:
Low Recoil
Lack of Noise Produced
Ability to put on a silencer
Cons:
Unpredictable stopping power (Will he go down? May the odds be in your favor.)
Short range
Low power weapon (refer to the unpredictable stopping power if you may)

My Opinion: Go for it, however... the geopolitical situation right now may not truly warrant it (trade warfare > shooting warfare), so you might end up showing it off in a gun cabinet. :roll:
