It’s always a problem in diplomatic interactions of when rhetoric stops being rhetoric.
The GT has been pretty incendiary recently. Who know

The Global Times, part of China’s official mouthpiece People’s Daily, has also called the USS Carl Vinson’s deployment “provocative.”

This is the sixth time a U.S. aircraft carrier has been deployed in the South China Sea this year,
but the first time with the advanced capabilities of F-35C stealth fighter and the new CMV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, the Global Times noted.

The paper quoted a Chinese military expert as warning that the Chinese army has been put on alert, and “China is fully capable of and confident in dealing with such provocations.”

U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Dan Martin, commander of the Carl Vinson Strike Group:
An armed attack against the Phillipines armed forces pubclic vessels or aicraft in the Pacific
including the south China Sea would trigger an obligation under
the U.S. Phillipines mutual defense treaty.

China never really said that. They made an oblique threat that "someone" would target Australia.

Yeah, we can extrapolate that China means China. I'm sure that is what they meant.

Taipei — China bristled on Monday over Britain's decision to send a Royal Navy warship sailing through the sensitive Taiwan Strait, saying the act "harbored evil intentions."

Agreed. And I think we've come close to that trigger a few times over the past decade. One of these days, it's not going to just go away.
Have you noted the second day in a row of large Chinese air entry into Taiwan’s air Id zone.
It really provocative. It’s one thing to utilize a pair of fighters or bombers
But sending in a large mix of fighters and bombers is begging for an accident. If their entering in a staged flight formation is one thing but if their deploying from differing altitudes and vectors it could easily be mistaken for an actual air assault.

sorry about the out of topic post lot of things bouncing around today

Every country prepares for war with their enemies. It's not really news?
It’s true but anytime a nation in Taiwan’s position seeks increased intelligence and military cooperation it provocative to their aggressor.
China is being more acerbic of the Taiwan’s status than they have in a long time. And the west is responding with more overt support for Taiwan’s independence. It’s a game of chicken.
I tend to suspect it’s either weakness in the CCP or their sense the west will back down no matter how hard China pushes right now.
I lean towards the former but who knows.

China's is presenting Taiwan some targets, meanwhile Xi Jinping's hand hovers over the red button.
Eventually before Taiwan reaches it's a limits of air defense it has to start shooting them down.
And China want's to know how many aircraft it needs to saturate their airdefenses, it also spies on all kinds of targets.
Taiwan is at the mercy of China.

China has been tracking pretty hard in the direction of "what do we have to lose?" ever since the pandemic started. With the loud noises they're making with India right now, I'd watch Taiwain that much closer.

Agreed. It's been a wild weekend, that's for sure.

This is just a thought. Maybe we see a few dog fights of missile launches. Maybe even some significant damage.
but world pressure calms it down in a week or two.
Not WW3 but military diplomacy.
Just a thought.
