As winter sets in around the Ukraine theatre, both sides are making preparations to hunker down, and not much movement is expected over the next few months, though for now Ukraine continues to make gains, but not as rapidly as had been.
Nuclear threats from Russia have died down.
At this time, The DEFCON Warning System assess the situation as improving on the nuclear threat front and has lowered the alert level. We will continue to reassess as the situation evolves. The public is cautioned that as the war progresses and the weather begins to warm again next year, the alert level is likely to change again. Do not lower your guard. The United States has acknowledged that U.S. military personnel are now on the ground in Ukraine. The U.S. says they are there for weapons inspection "and wherever the security conditions allow." The United States reports that Russian military officials have discussed what scenarios in which to use nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war. Meanwhile, despite Russian claims, IAEA inspectors find no evidence of undeclared nuclear activities and materials at Ukraine sites.
The United States says it will never recognize North Korea as a nuclear state. North Korea has launched a missile south of maritime border of South Korea. It should be noted that North Korea does not recognize the maritime border. North Korea has also launched an unusual number of missiles in the region, but there is no sign that this is for an impending attack. China’s leader has moved more toward security for the country, indicating that China will continue to strengthen its military and project its power.
