This is the DEFCON Warning System radiation report for 11 A.M. PDT, Thursday, March 17, 2011.
Information coming from the Japanese government regarding both the situation at the Fukushima plant as well as radiation readings has been inconsistent and sketchy, with some reports actually being censored by the government, making it difficult to know what exactly is happening in the area. Reports and forecasts are based on known data, but that data has now come under suspect, with some experts believing that the situation is out of control. Passengers arriving from Tokyo into the United States have triggered radiation scanners which have picked up low-level radiation from these passengers. Nevertheless, independent monitoring stations have reported that, as expected, the radiation plume from the stricken plant has decayed and dispersed, representing no health threat to the United States at this time. Forecast models predict the first of the radioactive plume to arrive in the United States by Friday. We repeat: there is no health threat at this time.
Due to the inconstant reporting of radiation readings, many of the radiation reports are now considered outdated. Reports should not be considered accurate if they are more than 48 hours old. Due to the lack of information coming out of the area, the DEFCON Warning System recommends evacuation of a larger area than the government has currently implemented.
At this time, the DEFCON Warning System does not foresee any of this radiation reaching the United States, however the situation lacks clear data. We will continue to monitor the situation and report as necessary.
