This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 12 P.M. Wednesday, January 1st, 2014. Condition Green. DEFCON 5. Condition Green. DEFCON 5. Condition Green. DEFCON 5.

Iran has pulled out of nuclear talks after the United States increased sanctions against Iran, leaving the agreement in jeopardy. President Obama has threatened to veto any further sanctions against Iran. Meanwhile, Afghanistan has signed a new cooperation pact with Iran while continuing to resist one with the United States.

China intercepted a U.S. warship in international waters in demonstration of its expanding naval power, while Chinese bombers were intercepted by Japan warplanes when they violated Japan airspace. To counter increasing Chinese aggressiveness, Japan plans to increase military spending while South Korea is expanding its Air Defense Zone in response to China's new ADZ.

Russia has moved nuclear weapons in response to U.S. anti-missile shield. This is not considered an unusual aggressive move, but does demonstrate that Russia is prepared to counter U.S. moves to defend itself.

The DEFCON Warning System is a private enterprise which monitors world events and assesses nuclear threats against the United States by national entities. It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch. The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning. At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack.

If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it. Your readings will vary. This system serves northern Steven County Washington and Hutchinson County, Texas. Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.

The next scheduled update is 8 P.M. Pacific Time, February 1st, 2014. Additional updates will be made as the situation warrants, with more frequent updates at higher alert levels.
