DEFCON Warning System - Update 3/27/22

DEFCON Warning System

Staff member
This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Sunday, March 27th, 2022. Condition code is Yellow. DEFCON 3.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time, however the situation is considered fluid and can change rapidly.

The situation in Ukraine continues to be fluid with statements by both sides that are aggressive and that indicate nuclear war is something that both sides are thinking about. The most likely scenario is a single detonation over Ukraine or the Sea as a demonstration. It is thought that this would be unlikely to lead to an all-out exchange and so it is something that can be considered.

The public is cautioned against alert fatigue. While the situation has gone on for some time, the danger has not lessened, and the public needs to remain aware of current issues in the unlikely event that the situation should take a turn for the worse. The DEFCON Warning System expresses concern that there is a possibility that a nuclear weapon can be used in Ukraine with very little warning.

At this time, however, it is not believed that Russia has the cause to use such a weapon. This can change as the war progresses and Russia begins to lose captured territory. Already, Russia is having to resort to calling upon allies to reinforce losses.

A Russian bomber violates Polish airspace, however there has been no reaction by NATO to this violation. France has raised its nuclear alert due to Russian war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, NATO doubles the number of battle groups to eight in the eastern portion of the defense alliance.

Russia has altered its stated goals in Ukraine, now claiming it only wants the Eastern part of the country, and has begun to dig in to defend it.

The U.S. President has stated that the Russian president cannot stay in power. The White House responded to clarification requests that the President was talking about removal via the ballot box, however it is unlikely Russia will accept this interpretation.

China has fully militarized three islands in the South China Sea while China and the Solomon Islands are close to signing a security agreement that could open the door to Chinese troops and naval warships at the island.

United States is to wave sanctions on Russia connected to expanding Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant. Additional sanctions are scheduled to be waved on Iran as well.

The European Union is to equip itself for combat missions for the first time in its history. First unit will be a 5,000-strong military intervention force. Côte d’Ivoire has ratified the U.N. Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

North Korea has tested an intercontinental ballistic missile and South Korea is warning that North Korea may be prepping for another nuclear test.

The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984. It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch. The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning. At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack. If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it. Your readings will vary. Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.
