There are currently no imminent nuclear threats against the United States at this time.
Seemingly in response to their failed rocket launch recently, North Korea now appears to be gearing up for a third nuclear test. Like the situation with Iran, the international community appears to have little influence over the nation and nuclear advancement will continue unabated.
The U.S. position on Iran is softening and is sending signals that it will now accept a nuclear Iran with the stipulation that Iran will not pursue nuclear weapons. At this time, there are no negotiations and no method to monitor compliance with any compromise. In the meantime, the USS Enterprise carrier group has been deployed to Gulf and stealth fighters are massing in the area for what may be an eventual showdown should Israel attack Iran or Arab entities attack Israel.
In the United States, the pool of experienced nuclear weapons scientists is declining to single digit numbers. This will seriously affect the nuclear arsenal that the U.S. has, both in terms of upkeep as well as future development. Toward another side of national security, the United States now views previously categorized hostile Islamic groups as moderate and capable of negotiating with. This comes at a time when these Islamic groups are already in power or poised to take power in countries that previously had western leaning dictators.
At this time, developments continue in Asia as both India and Pakistan tested nuclear-capable missiles, India's missile an Intercontinental Ballastic Missile capable of hitting China.
The DEFCON Warning System is a private enterprise which monitors world events and assesses nuclear threats against the United States by national entities. It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch.
