Donald Trump admits friendship with China's Xi Jinping could be over

United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday (Sept 26) admitted his friendship with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping could be over as he accused Beijing of undermining his prospects in upcoming elections.

With tensions growing sharply between the two sides on a range of issues, Mr Trump said China wanted him to suffer an electoral setback as payback for his hard line over trade.
But asked at a press conference in New York how Mr Xi could remain his friend given the hike in tensions, Mr Trump indicated that he preferred to be respected than liked.

"He may not be a friend of mine anymore but I think he probably respects me," said the President, who said the US economy was easily weathering the impact of the trade dispute.

Washington this week enacted new tariffs against China covering another US$200 billion (S$273 billion) of its imports, shrugging off threats of counter measures from Beijing.

"We have to make it fair," he said. "A lot of money is coming into our coffers. And it's had absolutely no impact on our economy."

The United States is pulling some of its anti-aircraft and missile batteries out of the Middle East, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sept. 26, citing U.S. military officials.

The Pentagon will pull out four Patriot missile systems from Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain next month, the report said, adding that the realignment step marks a shift of focus away from long-lasting conflicts in the Middle East and Afghanistan to tensions with China, Russia and Iran.

That sounds like they know more than their willing to tell on future possibilities. hhmmm? Or should I say plans?

Was there even really a friendship to begin with? There goes Trump lying off his ass again believing everything he says to be true but in reality China was never his friend. Nor did Trump really ever had intentions of being friendly with China from the beginning.

No one is his friend including in National politics, only reason why GOP support him is cuz the GOP has little to no power without him and nothing more. Supporting and being friends are totally different things.
