I have a feeling that South Korea is going to desperately believe anything the North tells them in hopes of avoiding another war on the peninsula. I am not holding my breath on this. North Korea does not have a good record of keeping its promises when it comes to their nuclear program.
 
You know its a sham or they found out they can't use there test site anymore.

It could be, or maybe Little Kim realized that he and his demented regime were about to be vaporized. Instead, North Korea will be using this opportunity to push for the US to leave the Korean Peninsula. Nothing super major here yet, but the door has been cracked open ever so slightly for diplomacy.
 
My money I would literally put 2gs on the line for this bet but they are stalling for time to finish their nuclear capabilities.

NOTE they (DPRK) have done enough testing where they can finish all there nuclear work on computers never needing to test again.

Lastly my second bet I would place 500$ on is that they have (DPRK) realized their nuclear test site is beyond salvageable at least with their resources at hand.

They already have the missiles and likely have the first Chinese designs for a warhead small enough to mount on one. They can work on how to make it fit the missile and deploy properly in a garage somewhere so the U.S. would never know it anyway. The North would never give up its nukes for anything, they know dam well they could destroy the south with the massive amount of artillery units they have, that could unleash the worlds largest stockpile of chemical and biological weapons. The Nukes keeps the U.S. from doing a whole lot to the North.

The only way for anyone to stop the North is a massive U.S. strike with nukes to ruin the norths artillery ideas and a lot of conventional weapons strikes to boot, one sudden strike that would make the Chinese and Russians sit down and say " DAMMM HOMMIE JUST GOT F-----ED THE HELL UP".
 
I mean I would have no problem with that, a very small tactical nuclear strike maybe several in the very very small MT range all along the DMZ against the artillery then conventional strikes to mop up the rest say all done with in a matter of two hours? My view is DPRK has threatened many times to nuke us, why not show them what its like to back up the words with it... I mean let a lone a nuclear strike on any country also has a profound moral and metal effect on a country,... Anyways that will never happen so just a nice dream.

It's a startling statement from a nation that only months ago declared it could wipe the United States off the face of the Earth and comes just hours after the five top South Korean government officials spoke with the young North Korean leader.

I just think they are buying time or trying to get out from under sanctions.

I swear, if Trump actually manages to pull off getting North Korea to back down from their Nuclear program, it would be a bloody miracle. A lot of his previous flubs could be forgiven for that (and any further claim that "Trump is going to start WWIII" would ring hollow).

I'm not holding my breath, it still seems much more likely that Kim & friends are just trying to stall for time to put on the finishing touches. But ultimately, we're civilians looking upwards at volatile international politics, and our estimations are all based on limited data. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Exactly. I'm wondering if there was some major back channel diplomacy involved here. Maybe the Olympics "charm offensive" was a way to push for a graceful denouement, allowing KJU to save face.

I was not in the USN but was Merchant Marine (offshore tugs) and given the operational tempo we have been maintaining everywhere, hopefully this will give some people a chance...after the upcoming exercises....to stand down a little, fix whats broken and catch up on their sleep. If this all does happen as it seems it is being scripted...... then the world will hopefully turn out to be a better place for it but.....I am not getting hopes up yet......
