Cool parade but, as a Marine I can say some of those military formations are pretty sloppy, out of step, uneven ranks, heads bobbing all over! Need to spend more time on the grinder. ;)

Interesting that you say that. It reminds me of my wife, @Clairese. She was in a high school marching band that was good enough to score an invitation to march in the Rose Parade. She always critiques marching bands. Sloppiness drives her crazy!

Uhg!! “Change step march”

This idea that military or celebratory events like this are somehow bad is very strange and not part of our or any nations cultural history.

It is imperative that any nation that wishes to survive must consciously attend to their history as a whole. Military parades or celebrations of important national history are normal and necessary for a nation to remember who they are as a whole.

To dismiss them off hand as somehow being the tools of a totalitarian. Actually runs against the nations interests.

Now can they be used as tools of a totalitarian, yes absolutely.
But the reality is that celebrations like this can be used by healthy governments and unhealthy governments.

So is that what we’re seeing today.
No I don’t think so, I believe that President Trump appreciates the necessity for the nation to have and maintain a strong defense. Not to use it recklessly but as a discouragement for others to try us. Look at how reluctant he has been to engage militarily regarding Iran or Ukraine. He wants a strong military but he also only wants to use it very cautiously.
What we “feel” should not be the determiner of our actions.

In peace prepare for war, in war prepare for peace. The art of war is of vital importance to the state. It is matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence under no circumstances can it be neglected.

Sun Tzu

So celebrating and inspiring the nation to peace through strength seems to me to be a perfectly logical thing to try and do.

You know that both can be, right? Its not a zero sum game.

Trump's vanity parade was poorly organised and executed. The marching was shoddy and out of step, the uniforms the antithesis of 'smart' the troops clearly didn't want to be there, there was no pride at all in what they were doing.

Don't even get me started on the soldier with his drone.

Any competent drill instructor would have been having kittens.

The crowds were non-existent and even the politicos in the official box looked uninterested.

To cap it all, and what a metaphor for Trump's presidency. the podium was proudly sponsored by...Coinbase.

What an absolute shitshow.

The parade wasn't so much the issue. It was the politicized nature of it all. Anyone that actually watched knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Why, because it was his birthday also? I think that's one thing he can't change. :ROFLMAO: That reminds me.
What's wrong with the president celebrating the US Army's 250th birthday?

Did those presidents you stated include video edits of them and their supporters, all the while talking about their complete and total political goals paralleled with soldiers in full uniform? And then Trump receiving weapons and HALO demonstrations? I'm sorry but if you cannot see the nonrelevance any of that has to do with celebrating the 250th anniversary of the US army, then I don't know what to tell ya.
