Well I am right in the heart of the ice storm in central US
Running my Generac to cycle my appliances and heat pump.
Have a destroyed tree down across our private road to clean up tomorrow. As well as check on neighbors.
I’ll be comfortable for short term emergencies like this. As well longer with some adjustments.

Glad you are ok atm. My Grandmother used to say Ice storms are Gods way of saying ice storms gods way of saying move north or south, doesn’t matter which.

That would be one of my long term adjustments need a triple wall flue pipe for my wood stove installed. Haven’t done if because resulting insurance rider is expensive.

Well I’m just setting here in my chair fetch with my Carin Terrier by fire and candle lite. Drinking a beer gecko g the news and going to read a book.

That would be one of my long term adjustments need a triple wall flue pipe for my wood stove installed. Haven’t done if because resulting insurance rider is expensive.

I remember that difficulty but with a stone or brick fireplace with a wood heater installed in it got around the insurance concerns. Just have not had a cool winter needing to use the wood heater for several years now. Have mulched a lot of the timber and used it as garden mulch to control weeds. Has been very effective for this, also using she oak leaves that act as a natural fire suppressant on top.

My paternal grandmother was a stern eastern lapland woman and she would have loved the timber. She would collect timber in winter to fire up the sauna. Whenever the kids saw her collecting timber they would run and hide in the nearby forest.

It’s hackberry not the best fire wood but it’s clear now.

A thought occurred to me checking in neighbors. Those that go somewhere else when power goes out will be the first ones to bug out to somewhere else if things go south.
