In accordance with the decision of the political echelon, the IDF began a few hours ago a targeted and delimited ground operation in southern Lebanon against terrorist targets and infrastructures of the terrorist organization Hezbollah, in a number of villages near the border, which pose an immediate and real threat to Israeli settlements on the northern border. The IDF operates according to a regular plan designed by the General Headquarters and the Northern Command, for which the forces have trained and prepared in recent months. The ground forces are accompanied in an attack effort by the air force and artillery forces, which attack military targets in the area in a coordinated effort with the fighters of the ground forces. The stages of the campaign have been approved and are being carried out in accordance with the decision of the political level. Operation "Northern Arrows" continues according to the assessment of the situation at the same time as the fighting in Gaza and other arenas. The IDF continues to fight and act to achieve the goals of the war, and does everything necessary to protect the citizens of the State of Israel and return the residents of the north to their homes safely. Reports in Lebanon of deaths and injuries in the attack on the home of Munir al-Maqdah in the Palestinian refugee camp Ain al-Khilwa in Sidon. Al-Maqdah was accused by Israel of working with Iran to smuggle weapons into Judea and Samaria. His brother Khalil al-Maqdah was killed not long ago in the same area by Israel. It is not yet clear whether al-Maqdah was eliminated.

I spoke with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant today to discuss security developments and Israeli operations. I made it clear that the United States supports Israelโ€™s right to defend itself. We agreed on the necessity of dismantling attack infrastructure along the border to ensure that Lebanese Hizballah cannot conduct October 7-style attacks on Israelโ€™s northern communities. I reaffirmed that a diplomatic resolution is required to ensure that civilians can return safely to their homes on both sides of the border and made clear that the United States is well-postured to defend U.S. personnel, partners, and allies in the face of threats from Iran and Iran-backed terrorist organizations and determined to prevent any actor from exploiting tensions or expanding the conflict. I reiterated the serious consequences for Iran in the event Iran chooses to launch a direct military attack against Israel.

Israel army says 'intense fighting' in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese militant group Hezbollah says it has targeted Israeli troop movements in northern Israel after Israel announced the start of a "limited" cross-border ground operation on Tuesday.

The Iran-backed group targeted "a movement of enemy soldiers in Metula with artillery shells", then a "gathering of enemy soldiers" in the same area with rockets.

Hezbollah said it also targeted Israeli troops in Avivim on the other side of the border with artillery.
