Lithuania to arm Ukraine

It's almost as if Lithuania - whose president does seem rather extreme - is trying to provoke Russia to attack it. You can see how Moscow is going to play this. If the crisis escalates to the point that Russia feels it has to openly intervene ('to protect Russian people from fascists'), Lithuania automatically becomes a belligerent, and for them, a legitimate target. Thus triggering Article 5 and war between Russia and NATO.

It would be easy enough to arm Ukraine covertly - I do not see what is to be gained by standing up and shouting about it... particularly if you are in Lithuania's position. They say they are the little party, being intimidated by their huge neighbour and needing our help, but this sends a completely different message.

From lithuania's point of view they're on the chopping block for russia's next advances. They've already been bombarded by propaganda in an attempt to rile up it's ethnic russian populace and accusations of them being fascist sympathizers of nazi germany. It's fair to say that their head is already on the block and Russia is finding it's time to bring it down to incite another "rebellion" to hide their forces in as they attempt to coup the nation. If Russia has legitimate intentions for an invasion into Lithuania this will make it so that Russia won't hide it's forces and the international community can't look sideways hoping it goes away and pretend with Russia there is no legitimate war.
