Yes this is interesting. NS2 is very bad for Europe, and yet Germany not only supports the project, it's facilitating it. Germany, mind you, leads the EU. Gazprom is rapidly gobbling the market in Europe, to the detriment of European gas producers such as Norway, UK and Netherlands. It seems strange that Germany should willfully harm its own interests in this way, but if you investigate the matter at any depth, you'll discover that it makes a great deal of sense. As one would expect, corruption appears to be the cause. Gazprom operates a number of subsidiaries and shell companies throughout Europe, most notably in Germany. They act as intermediaries, adding their fee to the price of Russia's gas, without actually providing a service in return. A very large sum is generated by these intermediaries, and it's said that the money doesn't return to Russia. US intelligence says it "disappears." No doubt that money is being used to buy supporters in powerful places.

As a side note, a similar circumstance was taking place in Ukraine prior to the coup there. Ukraine's Prime Minister at the time was attempting to expose related intermediaries in Ukraine, and to put a stop to them. NS2 came along as a result of this situation. A long but interesting story. Suffice to say, it's smart for Sweden to oppose NS2. All of Europe would be wise to oppose and in fact block NS2.

"Sweden’s municipalities have been told to improve their preparedness for war by the country’s Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). The agency sent official letters out to security heads in municipalities explaining that they must be better equipped to meet the threat of war and other crisis situations.
“This places a high demand on… operational speed, decision making, information sharing, crisis communication, flexibility, robustness and handling secret information,” the letter says, according to Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet (SvD).
Last year the Swedish Government decided to reinvigorate civil defence in the country and bring back the Total Defence Strategy (totalförsvarsplaneringen) from Cold War times, which included civil and economic forms of defence as well as military ones.
There is nothing to indicate that war is likely, but we have the government’s mandate to plan for it,” MSB’s information head Svante Werger told SvD.
