Putin approved the entry of military forces in South Ossetia in the Russian Armed Forces

The proposal of the Government of the Russian Federation on the procedure for the entry of separate military units of South Ossetia into the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The decree of the head of state is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
According to the order, negotiations on behalf of Moscow with the South Ossetian side will be conducted by the RF Ministry of Defense.

After signing the agreement, citizens of South Ossetia will be accepted for military service under a contract in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and sent for military service to the Russian military base on a voluntary basis. When concluding such a contract, a citizen must be dismissed from military service in the South Ossetian Armed Forces, and further military service is carried out in accordance with Russian legislation.

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said in a statement: "Any agreement between the Russian Federation and de-facto leadership (of South Ossetia) is illegitimate."

"Such steps are not aimed at protecting peace and are impeding peaceful process, which is necessary for the conflict resolution," he said.

NATO said Wednesday that it does not recognize the election held on March 12 in the Georgian breakaway region of Abkhazia.

This election does not contribute to a lasting settlement of the situation in Georgia, NATO said in a statement.

“NATO Allies do not recognize the Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions of Georgia as independent states,” the NATO statement said, adding, “The Alliance reiterates its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders.”
