Personally, I do not agree with the support for Russia. I've been a vocal advocate for Ukraine. However, I will also reiterate that sometimes you need someone who can reach out to the adversary. And... often you're left with no choice. 5.6 million barrels of oil per day, if you cut out Russia, how is India going to power their cities? Back-end channels and diplomacy are required. This position was perfectly summed up by the last U.S. Ambassador to India.
Those tariffs should be taking place for all countries dealing in Russian LNG and crude IMO. Especially for those in the EU. So we are in agreement that the outrage is selective when we are talking about the official position of western governments, It's been honestly pretty disheartening to see how the USA has failed to restart its energy sector to successfully fill the void of Russian LNG and crude, I'm still hopeful but you are right that we have not done enough to provide an offramp before tariffs, If China didn't have such a stranglehold on our economy I believe we would be pushing the same tariffs on them that India is facing in regard to the oil. Trump has hinted at it, and witkoff has placated the idea because he is a china fearing

I'd argue that kind of mentality has led to the very problem our world is facing right now. No one seems to care about anyone but themselves. That goes for nation states and the ordinary joe from the right or the left.

I believe this was a cold war strategy to counterbalance the soviet weapons in India. I do believe the US would be more than happy to sell India US hardware, but east and west hardware are not compatible, so India is going to have to choose a side. IMO

My sentiment is I wish we lived in a world where those were the opinions that drove our leaders to make decisions... Not what is good for their status quo. Wishful thinking that would most certainly bring unforeseen consequences but just tired of the lack of humanity from world leaders.
