RF scrambles Su-24 to scare USS Ross away.

I'm trying to find a Western source to confirm this, so far only finding Russian outlets reporting it, or smaller outlets basing it's information on the Russian sources. Just making sure it isn't propaganda intended towards the Russian people (gloating points).
 
Are they Russian territorial waters though? This is Crimea, which only one country in the world recognizes as Russian.
If the US is doing the same as they seem to be in the SCS, and not recognizing de facto jurisdiction, it can only lead to a collision course. So much for Putin and Kerry 'agreeing a draw' in Ukraine.

“The crew of the ship acted provocatively and aggressively, which concerned the operators of monitoring stations and ships of the Black Sea Fleet,” RIA quoted the source as saying.

“Su-24 attack aircraft demonstrated to the American crew readiness to harshly prevent a violation of the frontier and to defend the interests of the country.”


Here is a 'second source', but afraid it's just a rehash of RIA. Reads like a Lenon Direktorate Press Release, though. It probably happened, but the Pentagon has yet to confirm or deny. Afraid we are only getting the Kremlin-authorized version which will probably be a state secret by tomorrow.

They are citing 'an anonymous source in Russian Armed Forces in Crimea' if that tells us anything..

My gosh, every freaking time we get an incident like this you're rolling the freaking dice. All would take it somebody's itchy trigger finger and you could have a full-scale war! What are we [EU, NATO and the Russians] thinking?

At no time did Ross act aggressively nor did she deviate from her planned operations. The conduct of her crew has been and continues to be professional.

So somebody is outright lying. Who knows? But there has been no official comment about this from Russia, I take it? Just this 'unnamed source', which also quoted the unconfirmed Donald Cook incident.

Yea, it's easy to see, isn't it? The Russian statement is so chuck full of propaganda and Stalinesque language that I bet the Kremlin trolls worked overtime to get it right.

Didn't forget, huh.. Like I said before Putin would be using this 'super secret weapon' every time he could if he had it. Or, if he does, the US has adapted. Either way, to even bring that up without any incident to back it up is either a veiled threat or plain lies. Either way it didn't happen that way this time.

This was the bit that raised my suspicions. I'm not saying the Donald Cook blackout definitely didn't happen, but the only references I've seen to it have been on tinfoil sites, along with the immediate resignation of everyone on board when they got back to port. Which in itself didn't sound right.

Where did you get this wording, I notice it's different than Sputnik? Big difference between practically blacked out and actually shut down all equipment. Maybe a translation issue, but Sputnik I would imagine is the more correct translation. Either way Putin would use this again in a New York minute if he had it, and the unnamed source is a big problem versus an official US Navy response.

The fact that it was given by a "unnamed source" and the US and denied it happening means this is ridiculous. Sure, it could be used for Russian propaganda but we can't say our media hasn't pumped out countless stories of things that are untrue with the only evidence being an anonymous source.

Where did you get this wording, I notice it's different than Sputnik? Big difference between practically blacked out and actually shut down all equipment. Maybe a translation issue, but Sputnik I would imagine is the more correct translation. Either way Putin would use this again in a New York minute if he had it, and the unnamed source is a big problem versus an official US Navy response.

Lmao :lol: Isn't that interesting.. RT and Sputnik can't get there stories straight. Maybe the Russians would have us believe that these are 'independent' news agencies. Of course, RF does try to slant to the West for better effect, but obviously this is straight propaganda.. Thanks..
 
Yahoo released an article about it and the pentagon is saying that the Ross was completely in international waters, legally, and they weren't acting aggressively. It also said that when the Ross was deployed to the area it was made public, so it wasn't a secret that they were there.
 
US Navy Releases Video of Incident
In a video released by U.S. Naval Forces Europe, one of the Russian planes is shown flying an estimated 500 meters (1,640 feet) off the side of the ship at an altitude of 600 feet.

The Navy said it would not have released the video if it didn't want to publicly counter the Russian reports.

The incident comes as Defense Secretary Ash Carter warned about the danger of a summer offensive by pro-Russian separatists, who have seized Crimea from Ukraine.

"We are looking at Russian activities, at the activities of separatists. It's a serious possibility and a serious danger," Carter told the BBC in an interview published Monday.

Apparently there were 6 Su 24s and the US Navy has proof. More discrediting Putin's lies. Russia is seriously losing the propaganda war. CNN even points out the Navy did this to counter Russian reports. Womder if that makes Putin more or less desperate? Or is he more concerned with his new Chinese 'partners'?

I really doubt Russia has such a "super-weapon" (the fact that a camera was able to record the incident, and that the ship got back to port). If they did, they could easily walk over Europe over night, running aircraft disabling all equipment and having their tanks waltz inwards. Besides a weapon like that would probably disable the plane at the same time.

This is nothing more than propaganda.
