So this just happened:

As far as I can tell, all passengers and crew from the plane are still being detained in the Minsk airport, and the arrested passenger faces the death penalty in Belarus.

This requires a military response from the EU/NATO in my opinion. Civilized countries do not commit acts like this.

Too late, this little bum is in their hands now. This guy has a lot of good info on him: opposition organisation structure, connections to Western agents, everything, and he will tell everything.
They will give him a deal - "you tell us everything and maybe we'll exchange you."
"Otherwise you are facing from 15 years to forever sentence in prison or death for committed organised terrorism, treason and disclosure of personal information of governmental workers and threats."

Civilized countries do commit acts like this. Belarus is not the first to act this way, but maybe first to success.
Forced grounding of a plane followed by rumors of Snowden's presence onboard. #2
Also Western services planned to commit similar operation by intercepting a plane from Minsk and forcibly landing it in Kiev, with following arrest of 32 passengers from Russia, who are supposedly belong to Wagner PMC group. But FSB agent from Zelensky office gave leaks and ruined it all, which led to major changes in management of both Ukrainian and Belarus special services.

So it seems they can only wave their hand to him and prepare for protective measures of their agents and reorganisation of assets.

Not knowing all the intricacies involved in this and any past comparisons I agree your correct. The deal is already done a d likely not a cause for war.
That said it doesn’t mean it’s not a cause for ramped tensions and posturing.

A military response to Belarus would have been the start of World War III.
This country is part of the backyard of Russia, just like Ukraine. This is the red line that must not be crossed.

The plane, as well as passengers (sans Pratasevich) were released from Minsk and touched down at Vilnius at 19:25.

Really like how media is playing this out - "evil dictator hijacked the plane and forced it to land by threatening with a figther jet!"

...Despite that this is standard security measure in such cases, whenever there's suspicious activity onboard, military will send their jets to escort aircraft, and they know it better after 9/11.

...and dozens of these. From law perspective this operation is clear, but outrage of Poland, Lithuanian, England and their media is not going to calm down after such loss of their agent.

People even stormed company's Instagram and e-mail address about "how could you do something like this", despite that the company was merely acting according to instructions.

It is what it is, nations bitch slap each other. Then one or other will back down.
More times than not it’s done for domestic audiences.
Regarding any nation forcing an international flight down, my nation included, it’s wrong.
It’s even worse when it’s not a matter of National Security but for a journalist blogger activist, what ever he is.

It does indicate a antagonistic posture by Russia via their smaller ally nation.

They do not seem inclined to allow another Ukraine to happen.
Lets face it the purpose was to get this particular journalist off that plane and into custody.

What didn’t you like regarding my posts?
I agree many nations have done it.
I don’t like it, no nation should do it, including my own.
It just is what it is. Sometimes nations do things they think they can get away with.
It’s not great, and it shouldn’t be done to arrest an opposition journalist or a whistleblower.
Or do you support Belarus in what they did?

International overflights should be sacrosanct. There are treaties to allow international aircraft to overfly nations for a reason. If there was a bomb threat on the plane it was up to the captain of the aircraft to make the call, Not Belarus. Unless Belarus wants to claim it had a bomb that was going to be used against them they have no say, they can advise.

But we’re not going to war over it and sadly it will probably happen again someday.

Except in this case there was not. Looks like it was a made up excuse to hijack the craft.
It was. Just an anonymous notification or threat is enough already to put this plan in motion, and the targeted aircraft cannot help but comply, so from the law's perspective everything is clear - this is the gap in flight procedures that countries will happily exploit, and it's need to be fixed, somehow.
In Ukrainian's plan there was supposed to be a special "passenger" who would imitate sudden sickness and emergency state of his health or initiate a fight which would force aircraft to land in Kiev, even no jets required. There's a lot of loopholes to exploit.

“This is a serious and dangerous incident, which requires international investigation,” NATO Secretary Jens Stoltenberg said on Twitter."

This weak response, posted on Twitter of all the places it could have been released, tells you exactly what is going to happen. Nothing. Because otherwise, might as well be throwing a lit match into a can of gasoline.

Exactly. Governments don't force airliners belonging to other nations to land due to a "security incident." That is up to the pilot, airline company, and law enforcement. This was a hostage incident, and if I had been a passenger on that plane, I would have demanded to be taken to the American embassy immediately.
