First, the 15th Brigade on Okinawa, responsible for the defense of the southwestern islands, will be upgraded into a division.
The second key initiative is the creation of a Special Operations Brigade.

This is what I took from itNothing changes. Except Rank. The “3 Star” general with be in charge of a large BTF, not even a small division, which would be commmanded by a “2 Star” Major General.
This is ridiculous. A “three star” lieutenant general is a Corps commander. The size varies but is typically 2 to 4 divisions and anywhere from 40,000 to 80,000 personnel. Some are as high as 120,000.
To name this man a “three star” Lieutenant General, in charge of under 4000 people ( in an organization that’s been pencil whipped to reach that number) is absurd.
This is just the Japanese on Okinawa who have their tighty whiteys twisted and want to promote a “lieutenant colonel equivalent” to be equal to or out rank the Americans.
Maybe they should just promote him to seven star General and he can be the Uber General.
I could be wong.
Analysts believe this move is aimed at raising the commander’s rank to lieutenant general, which will improve coordination with the U.S. Marine Corps’ III Marine Expeditionary Force and allow for potential future expansion.
The creation of a Special Operations Brigade, which will merge the elite Special Forces Group (Japan’s counterpart to Delta Force/SAS) with one of the regiments. This merger is intended to strengthen Japan’s ability to conduct specialized missions, including special operations and high-value target missions within larger joint-force operations.
Oh it’s a good move, I am skeptical they can find the troops any troops, let alone more Special Operations personnel. This is what I took from it![]()
