The Tank That Wasn't Really A Tank

For years, Israel operated one of the strangest armored vehicles in the world, and almost nobody knew what it really was.

The Pereh looked like a conventional tank. It had heavy armor, tracks and even what appeared to be a tank cannon. But the “gun” was a disguise. Hidden inside was a launcher for Spike NLOS precision-guided missiles, allowing the vehicle to strike targets many kilometers away while appearing to enemy observers like just another armored vehicle.

The concept was pure deception: hide long-range precision firepower inside something the enemy thinks it already understands. For decades, the Pereh remained classified. Its existence was only publicly acknowledged years after it had already been operating. It is one of the most uniquely Israeli pieces of military hardware ever built, part tank, part missile launcher, part battlefield illusion.
