"Turkey and the United Kingdom signed a heads of agreement to collaborate on the development of Turkey's indigenous fifth-generation fighter project ... The agreement was signed in Ankara by BAE Systems and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in the presence of the Turkish prime minister, Binali Yildirim, and the visiting UK prime minister, Theresa May ... the programme aims to build a modern air superiority aircraft to replace Turkey's F-16s ... TF-X 'is a project supported fully by both the Turkish Republic and Britain. It is an important project that will further the strength of both countries in the defence industry field'"

I'll be very interested to see the outcome. Nothing about a generation 5 air superiority fighter would be comparable to an F-16 though, so I don't understand why this would "replace" the F-16. The fact that anyone would like to design a generation 5 air superiority fighter is incredible though, but it sounds like they're actually talking about a multi-role fighter. What would Turkey need with air superiority anyway? Greece? Just buy the F-15E if that's the case.
