Work stopped as Typhoon Koinu brushes past Taiwan with lashing rain, strong winds reut.rs/3PLPThh

Heading for me over the next couple of days but is expected to weaken. We normally have a few every year and people in this part of the world are usually prepared. The Philippines tends to get it workse as a) they get more direct hits and b) their housing is not often constructed to a high quality.

Buckle down and ride it out. Several years ago I had a Cat 5 cyclone with winds in excess of 300km/hr have it's eye go straight over my house. If you prepare well it is survivable with minimal damage but very concerning while it happens. Luckily I am well above the risk of any storm surge at well over 100m high.

We are VERY used to typhoons here - popcorn and movie days mostly, some bars will stay open and you can enjoy the weaher over a beer or 6.
Taking the dogs out for a walk is always fun though :)

It is weakening anyway so we will be fine, just damp this weekend. I just got off of the phone with someone in Taiwan and he said it wasn't partocularly bad there at all (its all relative of course)

Same story with cyclones

Having said all of that, we had a very wet weekend indeed and the typhoon signal was raise to 10 overnight on Sunday, the highest level issued by the HK Observatory.
Even the dogs were a bit reluctant to go out in it, which is a first. They did though, as did I, and got thoroughly drenched.
