White House: Russia planning to annex more Ukrainian territory

The United States has “ample evidence” that Russia plans to annex additional Ukrainian territory, White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Tuesday. Kirby, speaking from the White House briefing room, said that U.S. intelligence shows Russian plans to install “illegitimate” proxy officials in Ukraine and arrange “sham referendums” on becoming part of Russia. Russia is preparing to focus its efforts on Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and all of Donetsk and Luhansk, he said.
Kirby likened the “annexation playbook” to Russia’s 2014 annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula, which triggered a wave of international sanctions.

Ukraine to seek debt payment freeze as war ravages economy

Ukraine will ask international bondholders to agree to a 2-year delay on its debt payments so it can focus its dwindling financial resources on repelling Russia, a government resolution published on Wednesday showed. Facing an estimated 35-45% crash in GDP this year following Moscow's invasion in February, lawmakers have instructed the country's finance ministry to negotiate the deferral on its roughly $20 billion of debt by August 15.
The delay, which many creditors say is likely to be accepted, would come just in time to put off around $1.2 billion of debt payments due at the start of September.

Lavrov says Russia's objectives in Ukraine now go beyond Donbas

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that the geographical objectives of Moscow's "special military operation" in Ukraine are no longer limited to the eastern Donbas region but include a number of other territories, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported.
Lavrov added that Russia's objectives will expand still further if the West delivers long-range weapons to Kyiv, the agency said.-

"Russian President Vladimir Putin could be facing another war front, this time on his own turf, as one Chechen battalion prepares a second offensive against Moscow, a spokesman for the volunteer fighting force in Ukraine said. We know the enemy’s positions, where Russian military bases are," spokesman for the Sheikh Mansur Battalion, Islam Belokiev, said in a video message obtained by Fox News Digital this week while announcing a plan to once again fight for Chechen independence. "We have divided the Chechen Republic of Icheriya into three fronts and 16 sectors."

Putin thinks he’ll break America’s will in Ukraine, but he’s wrong, says the CIA director

Vladimir Putin believes the Russian military’s scaled-down attrition strategy in Ukraine will grind down Ukrainian forces and break the will of the U.S.-led alliance — but he is wrong, CIA Director William Burns said Wednesday at the Aspen Security Forum. “Putin’s view of Americans is that we always suffer from attention deficit disorder, and we’ll get distracted by something else,” Burns said during a live-streamed interview with Andrea Mitchell of NBC News.
