As long as NATO keeps out militarily, this situation can be contained IMHO.

What bothers me is the fact that aside from the French, no-one seems to be trying to speak with the Russians. That could mean that many in the west are now resigned to the fact that the Ukraine will never be allowed - whilst Putin is alive - to be part of NATO, as the cost of pushing such a venture is way too risky. The new strategy seems to hinge on turning the world against Putin. How successful that will be is anyone's guess; but It seems that Russia will now look to redirect their economic infrastructure completely away from the west with the help of China and other countries. That could end up hurting us a lot more in the long run

We’re literally shooting ourselves in the foot in order to look like we’re helping Ukraine when realistically all we’re doing is hurting the pockets of Russians and affecting the people that are against this war. Ukraine need to agree to neutrality and be done with this

Nah, it's actually hurting Russia more than anyone. They are gonna be completely dependent upon China now. That puts them in a compromising position. Yes, China is our competitive rival on a world stage. But they are Russia's regional rival...even though they have a good relationship. The fact that China came out and explicitly said yesterday that Russia is not our ally should tell you everything you need to know. Even if they increase trade with China, it simply can't compete with what the West offers. If that were the case, China would have done dropped Europe/US in favor of trade of Russia. They will also increase trade with Iran, North Korea, Syria and few of the rogue states; but lets be serious...that's not going to help much.

As far as France still talking to Russia, I'm kinda baffled. Macron has been embarrassed by Putin twice. Who purposely lied to him twice. Putin's diplomatic reputation is ruined and none of these other states are going to talk to him anymore. After seeing how he done Macron, no one else is willing to risk that embarrassment. Dont forget either that China stood with Russia in favor of the Minsk agreements just a day before Russia pretty much ripped them up in front of the world. That left a sour taste in China's mouth.

The west (other than Macron) will never communicate with putin again, it will take someone else representing the government. But so far it looks like Russia has chose to bleed itself out in Ukraine first.

Macron is doing that because there is presidential election in France in april. Situation in France about that is really tense, and since France held today the presidency of the council of EU, he wants to boost his reputation...

I could not agree more. Someone needs to tell the comedian in Kiev that no-one has his back; and the best thing for him to do is simply tell the Russian they will be a neutral country. I think the refusal to give them the jets they were promised will give them something to think about.
