I think this actually signals that Russia is ready to launch it's attack. I think the only thing they're waiting on is an excuse. Donbas is the target but I'm sure if it proves easy enough all of Ukraine will disappear.Just to put it into a little bit of perspective before all the doom porn people show up, exercises on this scale aren't exactly unheard of.
NATO also has Defender Europe 21 coming up later this month but thats mostly in Germany and Southern Europe. More then likely this is a response to that along with the current Ukraine situation.
The problem with regular exercises like this is they can be used to mask an actual military operation or they can be mistaken for an actual military operation. Anyone not already familiar with it should look up "Able Archer 1983" and see how an exercise almost led to a nuclear war.Just to put it into a little bit of perspective before all the doom porn people show up, exercises on this scale aren't exactly unheard of.

No one is saying that no one cares. tbh, I can't say that I know enough of the history of the region to say who is right. Does Russia actually have a legitimate claim to Crimea? I don't know.Yeah, so Putin will invade Ukraine but that's not a concern for this Defcon Level here.
Russia could overrun Ukraine and maybe even conquer your country next but it all doesn't matter and will not change, a thing here.
As long as no nukes are used. Nobody cares. Period!
Honestly, it breaks my heart about Ukraine. Such a wonderful, beautiful country with a rich culture, and a very long history. However, I do not want the US and Russia to go head to head. It is almost inevitably going to go nuclear if they do, and that is something I hope no one wants. Thankfully this does not look like that kind of situation. No one is saying that no one cares. tbh, I can't say that I know enough of the history of the region to say who is right. Unfortunately, those are arguments for another section of the forum. In Military Events, we are only looking at what is happening and what may be driving participants to do what they do. The morality of it all...not so much because it won't change what is happening.
And then we narrow that down even more when we consider the focus of DEFCON. If a country is pointing nukes at you, does it really matter who has the better claim?
Yeah, Ukraine looks to be really getting the short end of it. Georgia, too. No one is going to stop Russia. The land they got is gone. Ukraine ain't getting Crimea back.
All we can do is look to see what is happening, and then make a guess as to what is going to happen next.
Just because it isn't going to go nuclear doesn't mean that no one cares. But I hope willingness to get my country vapourized isn't the requirement for someone to be on your side. It isn't selfishness to say I am not willing to trade Dallas for Kiev. (Though if someone wanted to lob a nuke onto San Fransisco, I may have a hard time showing sympathy.) But it also doesn't mean that I watch what is happening over in Ukraine with a yawn.
Nah. Best to wait and see how much skin the Russian Federation and the West want to put in the game. The bad news is that if a downward spiral happens it will happen extremely fast. After all I went to bed on September 10th in a world that would completely evaporate in the eight hours I was asleep.Just my own opinion but I think we should drop to Defcon 4 if fighting between Ukraine and Russia starts
