US attack ads

Absolutely true and that’s why I am not as concerned for the break up of the Union. Americans are nasty hard political fighters.

Regarding the adams Jefferson attacks.
They died as friends on the same day.

So ignore the attack ads and focus on policy issues or lack of. And you will be much more sane in the long run.

Arron Burr killed Alexander Hamilton who was the first to sign the Declaration of Independence in a dual for goodness sake.
We have seen much much worse political fights in American history than today and still held our selves together.

Yes, one time a Republican (the first actually) won minor election and the Democrats took their ball and went home. No lasting damage. Nope.
 
Doing representative government in an age of instant information and hit pieces is very challenging.
I have lost count of the number of apocalyptic scenarios that were sure to happen than failed to launch.
I’m ashamed to admit it I bought into my fare share of them.
Some things are just going to take decades to fix.
That said there could be some really damaging and violent setbacks along the way but full on apocalypse now.
Not so much
 
Representative Democracy is outstanding. It is slow to move and hard to pin down. My only regret for the US Republic is the way that have been found to to co-op it. The direct election of senators, The complete bastardization of the interstate commerce clause and activist judges are just a few.

Just in my lifetime, the federal government has become an incredible behemoth, and the number of armed agencies has grown to staggering proportions. The Federal Government just spends money it doesn't have, and then acts like it's our fault that we don't give it more.

I don't see anything ending well here.
