Immigrant and diversity make this country great, and make that city great. Not everyone thinks like you, or wants to live like you. The fact migrants get exploited is something that needs to be worked on but immigrants should be welcome here, and we need to work on making them less exploitive instead of punishing THEM for being exploited.
In the past on this forum I have acknowledged that those who have entered the nation illegally have been betrayed. They were betrayed because they were told to come, that the doors are wide open. We’ll figure out your legal status later.
It was because of this that not to long ago I adopted the position of ok, that’s not fair to those individuals. We needed to accommodate those who entered the nation improperly. Mostly in part because we as a nation had either ignored it, tacitly allowed it, or encouraged it.
We are as I’ve said repeatedly are nation of immigrants, made up of many. That it was infact this very thing that made us who we are as a nation and made us strong. And ultimately proved that the American system of a representative republic is the most resilient and progressive system of government ever.
That even now as we have this national debate yet again. There are those who cannot even differentiate or refuses to even discuss the differences between entering legally vs illegally. To enter by invitation, or enter because they can get away with it.
It is because of this inability or reluctance that perfectly Illustrates why it is I have taken such a hard line approach on the matter.
I find it heart breaking that there really are people who have come to America under these conditions. Never truly invited, never truly welcomed to the nation. To know they are trapped in this domestic political purgatory.
But the more that I hear and see this refusal or inability, to even define or acknowledge the difference between legal and illegal immigration. Is the very reason I have taken this hard line. Not even refusal to discus it, you yourself going so far as asking why we even need to have boarders.
Let me explain why this is, and it’s really very simple. It because we have seen this song and dance before.
“Oh they’re here”
“it would be immoral”
“they’re people like us”
“they are just seeking the American dream”.
Isn’t it ironic that an illegal has just as much a right to be in the US unimpeded, yet if two young Anglo Caucasian women want to open Mexican lunch wagon its culture appropriation.
To now hear this worn out song and dance rolled out again is exactly why I have said bullshit, no more!
The “Emperor is butt ass naked” and his subjects as well as the emperor himself are being lied to yet again by the political handlers of the day.
Here’s the thing, those political handlers know the emperor looks the fool.
They know the arguments put forward to accept and change the way we look at immigration or enforce our laws are specious and ultimately suicidal.
To now see these same emotional half truths scrawled on protest signs or amplified through loud speakers is embarrassing. That we have infact “been fooled again”.
You acknowledge the system is flawed but instead of demanding or proposing ways to fix the inequalities. The expectation is yet again emotionally framed with “oh the humanity”. We have to do something right now.
All while yet again refusing to address what is legal or illegal. Refusing to even acknowledge there is a difference.
Why is that? I would argue it’s not because one wit is given for the moral question. It is a much more baser of a motivation.
What can I get away with, what ways can I disrupt and force a culture or nation to conform to “My” world view and notion of a just society. Shouting, protesting, demanding, obstructing.
Those are acts of force, of imposing one’s world view on others based solely on who can scream the loudest and longest.
You are being lied to, I know what happens in Portland because I’m regularly in Portland. I regularly consume footage of the ICE facility. I have been at that ICE facility. I have been face to face with the people Trump said he was authorizing “full force” against. I will say this because I have a first hand account and that matters to spread, spread the word they are lying. But I don’t expect the people who cheer it on to care if it’s a lie or not.
Here’s the thing about this, “I am being lied to.
I know things are not as bad in Portland as some would tell me.
I also know that things are not as benign and self-righteous as you would say they are either.
What is unimpeachably not a lie is that ICE officials are there to execute legal and constitutionally sanctioned duties. You and others are there not to “dialogue or debate”. You’re there to impede and obstruct those federal officials.
No matter how much you spread the “truth” of what really is going on does not change those basic truths.
If you get arrested or hurt, I DON’T CARE!
You’ve made a choice to obstruct these legal acts, you accept the consequences. I certainly hope you do not get hurt but it is you who again are defending lawlessness.
and yes I know legality has nothing to do with morality, just as morality has little to do with politics.
