US prepares military drill in W. Ukraine for mid-September

The US and its allies are preparing to stage a military exercise in western Ukraine, close to the Polish border, in mid-September. The joint drill will involve over 1,000 troops from the US and Europe, as well as from Ukraine.

If the US is preparing for military drills in West Ukraine, one seems to think that the drills are just a move to get troops in the area, to scare Russia. US troops and Russian troops operating so close with bad blood is not good.

Yeah...in some ways it might be a good idea to go to DEFCON 3 during the duration of this exercise. Though there are other reasons why it wouldn't be such a good idea...

I think of two right now.
#1. If either side is involved in an incident, it would quickly go to a state of war (more likely)
#2. Russia could fabricate the military drills as an act of war, and fabricate evidence that states that the United States attacked Russian rebels, and a result, gain the advantage and possibly get away with an attack (less likely)

Washington is going ahead with a planned military drill in Western Ukraine just hours after Russian president Vladimir Putin was able to convince pro-Russia separatists to stand down in their fight with the Ukrainian military in the eastern oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk. This military drill does not bode well for Friday’s cease-fire discussion in Minsk, Belarus between the Ukrainian government and the separatist leaders who will demand autonomy from Kiev.

What a completely misleading (read: "lying") headline. There was no agreement to a ceasefire. All both sides agreed to were the parameters needed for a ceasefire to take place. No one said they would abide by the parameters.

It's kind of like saying: "We'll stop fighting you give me one kazillion dollars and I make pigs fly." "Agreed. But I'm not giving you one kazillion dollars." "And I won't make pigs fly."

See? There was a peace plan that both agreed to. No one took it up, though.

I think a bit of genetic engineering might solve the problem with pigs not being able to fly.
