RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY: MOSCOW TOLD UNITED STATES IT SUSPENDS INSPECTION ACTIVITIES UNDER START WEAPONS TREATY
#BREAKING Russia says suspends on-site inspections under nuclear START treaty with US
The Russian foreign ministry said Monday that facilities subject to inspections under New START, a strategic arms reduction treaty with the United States, will be "temporarily" exempt from such inspections
I never agreed with the new start treaty. Mostly because it made the United States weaker and more insecure.
Importantly, notifications, which are much more valuable, are not affected. RU says it is committed to New START. Inspections were suspended by COVID anyway. So, technically, we are not worse off than in the last two years. But politically it is a move that is not very helpful
Posted it since Podvig is a highly regarded expert in the field, and it usually pays to listen to what he has to say.Notifications are not more important than inspections. What a ridiculous thing to say.
I thought so as well, but if the Russians are willing to abrogate it then perhaps it was more even that I believed.I never agreed with the new start treaty. Mostly because it made the United States weaker and more insecure.
