Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview broadcast on Sunday that he had rejected a defence ministry proposal to hold snap Black Sea military drills in response to NATO activity because he did not want to escalate tensions in the region.
 
Do you know? Did we even exceed the limit of two naval vessels in the B Sea? I know we were running more intel flights but didn’t really understand what the dust up was all about.
 
Putin will pitch a fit the time any NATO country has a ship in the black sea other than Turkey. If Putin launched another exercise in the Black sea around Ukraine it would most definitely escalate things in a huge way.

He knows NATO is very serious about Russia staying out of Ukraine. Putin hopefully was only trying to appease some hardline generals and the wealthy bastard who bought most of the resorts in Crimea, by sending so many forces opposite Ukraine and now he was able to tell them it's suicide to attack so he can back down circa the cold war and focus on internal matters.
