I'm seeing videos pop up in my meme app it seems mighty toasty out there, just feels different. Can't verify the accuracy of the posted video just think its funny that Ukraine/Russia is popping up in my funny app.

And who will be the first one to get rid of their nuclear weapons? No one? Thought so.

These are mundane scheduled reservist exercises deep within the country. Russian army manages to gather numbers of reservists in service, deep within the poorer regions of country, and offer additional wages. I doubt that wealthier western parts of Russia would gather much people, or this much snow.
I'm amused how people even thinking that fully mechanised Russian army is deploying their forces like at 19th century.

The head of the UN General Assembly welcomed the declaration of the "nuclear five"

Very odd timing. It seems to me that this might be a justification for any future wars between the superpowers to remain conventional. I honestly wonder if people have thought of the idea of WWIII remaining strictly conventional?

I don’t see it as meaning or effecting things one way or the other.
What does it really mean without India Pakistan DPRK Israel, and probably Iran ?

That and three of them are actively developing newand faster delivery vehicles.

I certainly have.

Some rules:
Some country no one cares about.
No invasion of mainlands.
Try to keep Civilian casualties to a minimum.
Conventional weapons only.

Yeah, why is this considered a bad thing? If anything, it's a bit reassuring from where I'm standing.
That’s what I’m thinking.

I just think it’s weird with all the bluster coming from all sides that suddenly the nuclear 5 is formed?

I did do some reading in the articles. This comes from the initiative of Moscow. Which means Putin got one of his demands met already.

To a degree, I agree with you. However, I also have to say. Most of the countries you listed aren’t considered “super powers.” That they should lead the example of not using them on each other to show while yes War can happen. It’s more effective to talk than to shoot.

Which, in my honest opinion is true up until a point. I think this may have just given Putin an out as well for the situation on Ukraine.

There’s certainly been some discussions going on out of the public eye. That much is obvious. Things could be far worse - or better - than it looks.

Some nations have been left out. This is true. But not the ones that can utterly destroy the planet several times over.

Side note, I’m not saying a nuclear conflict between the other nuclear armed states in the world would be okay. It would be nothing short of catastrophic. But as long as NATO, Russia and China are at least in agreement that nukes should never be used, in my eyes that’s a good thing. I think. Please do feel free to correct me though.

And who will be the first one to get rid of their nuclear weapons? No one? Thought so.
If they wanted to go to war they had dismantled them decades ago.
Only countries that are afraid of losing a war own nukes, using them is an unfair and suicidal move.
The conventional weapons of today are very efficient and why should people use nukes when a bullets or a bombs are still deadly enough?
And what good is a war for if nobody can win it?
So it turns out that only non-nuclear contries can enjoy to be at war against each other.
A fact envied by the nuclear powers. Therefore, they are eternally condemned to inactivity and proxy wars.
The people there have lost out on itself underneath, without war they aren't complete functional humans anymore which can solve their problems the natural way.
But maybe this is a step forward to something that lies ahead anyway.
But now imaginate it yourself.

And what good is a war for if nobody can win it?
That's the point. Nuclear nations would rather end it for everyone then end up losing ending up living under foreign boot.

It's in that logic that prevents wars against major powers of the world.

I for one am happy US has nuclear weapons. I can live & sleep well knowing we will never be taken over and I will never live under a foreign system. Independence & Freedom or give me death,... occupation isn't a option for any nuclear nation.

As someone else pointed out, this statement is meaningless with only half of the nuclear-armed nations on the planet participating. Even a relatively minor nuclear exchange between any of the smaller nuclear powers would wreak havoc on the rest of the world, and I'm not referring to side effects of nuclear detonations. Stock markets would immediately crash and a global economic depression would ensue, although I doubt it would last as long as the Great Depression of the 1920s. Beyond that, imagine the resulting massive humanitarian crisis that would cost billions of dollars and require global cooperation on an unprecedented scale.

They're also not saying anything that they haven't already known for decades. It would be no different if Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, Apple, and Google all released a joint statement saying that operating systems and applications tracking users is unethical. Really???? Who knew? Everyone knows you can't "win" a nuclear war. Oh, you might suffer fewer casualties or fewer cities destroyed than your enemy - but would the resulting devastation be worth the technical "victory?"

MAD only works if the leaders of all countries possessing nuclear weapons are rational. During the mid-20th century, we were fortunate that this was the case, more or less. Now, we have delusional megalomaniacs and theological fanatics in possession of these weapons. Rationality is no longer protecting us - only luck is keeping the nuclear genie in the bottle right now.

Make no mistake: nuclear weapons will be used in combat within our lifetime. It is a statistical certainty. The only questions are when, where, who, and how many?

Maybe that's what it will take for the human species to finally wake up. But I doubt it.

Yeah they have said it’s insane to use nukes in a war but they will use them for defense. Any nation would at the first time their back is against the wall.

Russia could and would consider they need to defend themselves against NATO right now.

Mad also only works when you have parity. Right now experts know for a fact Russia has a 2 to 1 advantage in deployed nuclear weapons.

They have exactly what they need for a first strike to take out any chance we have at hitting back until our four remaining deployed subs launch.

It would be nothing but a revenge strike at that point. Our nation would be completely crippled with tens of millions dead and Russia might even be able to find and sink our boomers before they could launch.
