We are spending an inordinate amount of time moderating guest posts.

We've always liked guest posts as it allows people to post here without creating an account. That makes some people feel more secure.

But guest posts can not be ignored by users who don't want to hear from someone.

Also, someone who won't make an account makes me, personally, more suspicious of their motivations.

What are your thoughts?

Should we continue to allow guest posts in certain forums?

Or should we stop allowing guest posting?

I think I made alot of posts already, alot went through the censor, also a member would just get muted so there is no difference for me.
There would be no comment from me this way possible, when some members are against me for personal reasons that want to ignore what I say.
I can't communicate with you either way, if I'm ignored as a member nobody will read my comment. I have to stay a guest.

Being a guest myself i'll always vote for it to be allowed. Sometimes i just wanna ask something or make a simple observation as i've been ding since 2019 on my daily, obssesive lurk on this forum.

HOWEVER, risking not being approved for ~le personal attaccc, most of your problems come from one single guest, so take that as is...

As a Guest, when I must go I want at least to say goodbye this time.
It was a nice time here after all even so the news I post are often bad but the reason is nobody else was posting them so quick, so I did.
If it's decided that I can't post here anymore, the staff and team can focus more on their own thoughts.
Let's hope they stay right and the "scorch earthers" are wrong, but who can always be right. Right? ;)

You know I’ve posted some sources before that turned out to be bad. Not just the post but the source.
I’ve seen those pointed out and tried to learn from that and be more circumspect. As Riff Raff knows I will defend sources that I do trust and try to verify.
But at some point you have to work harder at being more selective in your post, or not.
The purpose of debate and dialogue is not to scream over each other.
It is to continually trying to present your argument or concerns in a cogent verifiable manner. Not just to be the first or loudest.

Take this Ukrainian situation, yes it could go very bad, and it has continued to escalate. But as it’s been pointed out it is still highly unlikely this is going to escalate into a full blown war between nato and Russia.
It can, but is still highly unlikely and to say otherwise obfuscates the dangers and risk that already exist just for the people who actually live on either side of the boarder with Ukraine and Russia.
Ukraine is a political power issue for most of the world. It’s life and death for those who live there.

I feel like we've had bad experiences a few months ago but the person concerned has seemed to changed thier attitude which I'm happy to see. Please keep guest posts for the time being.

I am normally against any kind of censorship and I generally dislike deleting posts or banning people.

That being said, we cannot allow wild posters, doom mongers, and conspiracy theorists free reign on this site. Our goal is to provide accurate, verified information and non-partisan analysis of that information.

I've been having to delete way too many posts recently because one guest is refusing to play by our rules, and I'm getting tired of it. I do not believe that individual as any interests here other than sowing discord and chaos, which I will not allow.

I hate to disable guest posting because of one person, so I suggest that individual learn very quickly to grow up and participate with the adults in the room. Otherwise, I will support disabling guest posting, especially during a crisis.

3 chances - warnings on a subject than kicked. I think is fair. You can explain issue each time so they understand eg. Credibility of source
Unwarranted post- fear mongers etc
And so on. If communication fails while warning given each time .🙄🤦‍♂️👋

We can't kick a guest. We have to ban by IP.

IMHO it depends on how much is "big" the problem to moderate guest messages. I don't think that in general guests have "dubious" motivations, more likely is people concerned about something (like Ukraine now) and land here more or less casually and they want to say something, but without sufficient interest to make an account. I'm for "Disallow".

First of all let me say, i feel people should be required to register in order to post. That being said, are all these guests deliberately fear mongering or war mongering? Or do they not know better? I kind of wonder if most of the guests just don't have the ability to discern weather a story is false or not. It would be logical to assume someone who is coming here for the first time wouldn't understand the situation fully, and may say stuff that can be viewed as fear mongering or war mongering.

I feel like there are two categories of fear mongering post. The first kind is driven by ignorance of the situation. The second kind is driven by personal desires for attention or trolling or any of the other internet phenomena. The first kind needs only be remedied by staying around places like this one and getting more plugged into the facts on the ground, so as to get a more accurate idea of when nuclear concern is warranted or not. The second kind needs to be kept from places like this as quickly as possible, given the stakes involved in keeping people properly informed. Time and energy spent dealing with trolls is far more damaging here than, say, a comments section under a Let's Play YouTube channel.

Like others I'm unsure if there's an easy technical way to deal with the second while keeping the first intact. I would imagine most guests are sincere. I'm interested in what might be decided in this domain.

I would say regardless, to any trolls who might be reading this, if you're psychologically able to it would really benefit everyone for you to understand the gravity of this topic and carve out an exception to your normal internet habits when it comes to matters of global war and peace, and information that can assist people's literal physical safety in such a scenario. Just putting that out there.

Too bad that guests can't vote so you have to count the guests in this forum and add them to "Allow".
I have little sympathy for people who want to be able to post as a guest using proxy servers but still want a voice on how this site is managed.

You want a vote? Sign up for an account. It's free. Otherwise, I don't want to hear it.

Here is a question regarding guest posting.
I realize we have the color question but is it sufficient at eliminating bot posting.
I am ignorant as to capabilities so I’m just throwing my ignorant question out there so my ignorance can be confirmed.

Just be a member and get over yourself. I know I don’t have a problem with ya and value your input, even if some of it is a little out there 😝
