I think they will be limited Ukraine certainly isn’t going to invade.
But it would be impractical to expect or limit Ukraine taking out a Iskander mobile system. Just across the boarder of a airfield just across the boarder.
The only way for Russian retaliation is through electronic/cyber warfare .

Respectfully, why? Given the rhetoric we have seen recently I would not be surprised to see the Russians use a tac nuke in Uraine in the coming days/weeks depending on how their latest operation in the Eastern part of the country goes. I dont think that Putin is going to accept his ass being handed to him in a doggie bag. I also question the strength of dissident Kremlin voices at this point. I am inclined to think if its a question of his accepting defeat in Ukraine then Russia will cross the nuclear threshold. I sincerely hope that I am wrong. I also believe its unwise to underestimate what damage Russia can do with what capabilities are left them and moreover, if given no hope of either victory or some sort of negotiated settlement as a way out (and current voices from both sides dont particularly seem to favor this) what damage they will do if they feel faced with no alternative other than defeat.

I agree this is what really is catching my attention. Not Moldova-Transnistria.
Keep watching for action around St Petersburg as that is where things will start to buildup. With all the lakes over that area it will tend to concentrate the forces much like the lakes forced the direction of Stalin's thrusts in the last military attack. The difference this time is the air support and missiles Putin has. While ground forces could be held up by the restrcted approaches the air attack would be potentially be the first and most effective stage. The next bit would depend on how fast the ground forces could be moved in which would be a question. Considering how poorly the ground forces fared against the Ukrainians the Fins would be an even tougher nut. This scenario could then result in possible use of SNW to advance.

Russia's 1. TV channel is discussing several nuclear strikes against NATO members in Europe with the SARMAT RS-28 missile NATO codename SATAN-2.

Satan 2 is equal to 500 Hiroshima bombs.
This is 10 Megatons as a single warhead or 20 MIRVs of 500 Kilotons or 40 MIRVs of 250 Kilotons.
SLBMs are faster and closer, most nuclear armed nations see such actions as a nonstarter.

The ICBMs are so costly that Russia will not move them close to the borders where they can destroyed before they can be launched.
Russia already has stationed the cheaper Iskander SRBMs and MRBMs in Kaliningrad since 2014.
In a nuclear exchange all of them will fly @Shadow_Eden It's a "use it or lose it" situation.
But whatever Russia tells you is often just a lie.
The Satan II is most likely reserved for the U.S. population,
Russia will not use ICBMs on targets this close that's for sure, but Russia is this huge that anyone has to use the ICBMs against it.
Europe is the theatre for the use of air/sea or ground launched SRBMs, MRBMs, cruise missiles and the classic bombing raids.

A cyber attack on critical infrastructure or strategic assets can result in a nuclear retaliatory strike.
We’re talking about something beyond a DoS attack I’m assuming.
How hard is it to identify where a cyber attack of this impact came from?

Well we usually always find out the culprit down the line. Not like its instant but evuatuly they get traced back. The West has top notch cyber capabilities. We just don't brag about it or use it publicly.

Sorta like how the US generally doesn't brag or parade around our newest top of the line stuff unlike how Russia or China does because they need to convince people their weapons are good where as the West doesn't need to do that.

Its smarter to downplay our abilities and keep them under the public radar to keep our adversaries guessing and confused.

Jesus Christ, is there ANY doom you won't screw up to make it sound worse than it really is???

First: Satan-2 is the MISSILE, not the warhead. To say "Satan 2 is equal to 500 Hiroshima bombs" is like saying "The Domino's delivery car is equal to 100 large supreme pizzas."

Second: The Satan-2 has a payload capacity of 10 tons, maximum of 24 warheads, not 40, and half of those are going to be decoys. (Hint: Don't do your own math on warhead capacity next time.)

Third: Nobody uses the big multi-megaton yield warheads anymore. They're dinosaurs. The reason is that through the process of destroying several South Pacific islands, scientists discovered that four 250 kiloton warheads detonated in a proper pattern over a city will cause much more damage than a single 1 megaton warhead. In other words, all that bragging about who had the world's largest nuclear penis during the 60s was a huge waste of time. The fact that the Satan-2 *CAN* carry a single 10 megaton warhead doesn't mean it will. It would be a massive waste of a perfectly good missile to only put a single warhead on it.

Fourth: (And this is by far my favorite) I would think twice about getting your information on strategic weapons from a source that has a paragraph header stating (and I quote):

Satan 2 is Equal to 500 Hiroshima Bomber

So, the Satan 2 is equal to 500 World War 2 B-29 Superfortresses??? I'm quivering, but it's from laughter, not from fear.

You keep posting 'em, and I'll keep shooting 'em down. Like frozen fish in a frozen water barrel.
Hmmm, next contraction in about four minutes I think😏

too bad our government don't try to really get people ready here.. or maybe get fall out shelters ready
Unfortunately the US is better off NOT prepping the public in this way, YET…because it would send signals to our nuclear adversaries. Signals we do NOT want to send at the moment. Plus the media would have a field day, and the great toilet paper crisis 2.0 would occur. “People are buying more than they are at Christmas, relax.”

You're right. This is why the government withholds how bad things are getting. (Not implying that things are bad right now. Just making an example.)

In essence, the government is sacrificing the safety of its citizens so as to not irritate the enemy. The thinking is that this will save lives by preventing war. I don't particularly agree with this philosophy.
