Yes, it was very hard decision. Putin tried to avoid this war for 8 years.

Well, Russia has no other choice. This is not the first time in history that Russia has been forced to fight with the combined army of several countries.

Relations between China and Russia are improving significantly last time. I know few chinese and they say, that their government forbids criticizing Russia. China sees US as its main enemy. I don't think China has any reason to attack Russia.

Impossible. Chechnya is very loyal to Russia today. High losses just make them more angree agains Ukraine. If you are talking about Nur-Sultan - It is Kazahstan. It is true, that Ukrainian scenario is possible in that country. Hope, that Kazah people will make correct choice.

That doesn't make sense. I can read in english language and I see, that western media completely ignores the Russian point of view and shows only how it is looks from Ukrainian side. You can't have an independent opinion if you only listen to one side of the conflict.

Every country has it's own "red lines". Crossing those lines will trigger that country. NATO marked Russia as enemy long before the conflict in Ukraine. And NATO keeps expanding towards Russian border. It is question of surviving Russia. Try to imagine the situation, when russian nuclear missiles are located in Canada and targeting USA cities. Today Canada is a friend with USA, you don't even have a strict borders between countries. Same as Ukraine and Russia before. Imagine that Russia funded a riots in Canada and it's government was overthown and new, pro-russian government got power in Canada. What USA will do in that case?

USA never respected borders and governments of countries they didn't like. List of countries invaded by the US is really big.
Again you are correct and it was wrong then. NO one was threatening Russia before they invaded. Russia just wanted to regain control over a nation they willingly ceded independence to 30 years ago. In the west we have a phrase for that, it’s called being butt hurt.
Like I said we are where we are at because we are unable to even agree to the terms of treaties or historical events.
Fight your war then, but there you go, good luck and have a good day.

By the way who’s sending billions of dollars / rubles to Russia in military aid like they got between 40 and 45?

That is certainly true. But two wrongs don't make a right.
No more than Russia's invasion of Ukraine would justify a full-scale USA invasion of Cuba.
Russia may have had a reason for its actions, which I understand the concept, but if the goal was to protect the Donbas breakaway region, then the Russian military didn't need to go to Kyiv, Lviv, etc. The expanded invasion of Ukraine was a choice, which will not end well for the Russian people. What the Russian people need to decide is what were the actual goals for the invasion, and can they negotiate a settlement with Ukraine. Russia will be no more able to control a defiant Ukraine, than the USA would be able to control a defiant Cuba.
I don't know when that invasion will stop. What regions will be taken. My personal opinion - I'd like to see Odessa with Russia, because there is a lot of pro-russian people. I'm not sure about Kyiv. It is very pro-ukrainian, other russians think that Putin should take Kyiv, because that city is a mother of all russian cities. Lviv is a true Ukraine. That region should stay with Ukraine.

Diversity = strength, which is not the same thing as firepower, but it is just as important. And as someone else pointed out, we don't need to brag on our military's firepower. In fact, the less bragging that is done on that topic the better.
In the military there is no "DIVERSITY"! You're all just lean, green fighting machines! Lethality of firepower is what whins wars!

If by that you mean "fuck yeah, let's just have anyone and everyone as long as they're capable and competent, the more the merrier"

Then yeah, that's the spirit!

Name some countries that the US invaded that were not defensive oriented! The US wants to do business and make money, not invade countries.

NO one was threatening Russia before they invaded.
What date do you mean? 2022? 2014? 2015? 2008? When Russia invaded Georgia? NATO was created to resist against the USSR. Why NATO was not resigned after USSR falls?

Russia just wanted to regain control over a nation they willingly ceded independence to 30 years ago. In the west we have a phrase for that, it’s called being butt hurt.
No, Russia just don't want any threat near borders.

Like I said we are where we are at because we are unable to even agree to the terms of treaties or historical events.

Unfortunately, NATO countries fuels that war. Supply Ukraine with intelligence data, weapons, fuel, military personal. There is a threat, that the conflict will be expanded to other countries. Moldova. Or Russia could hit the logistic point in Poland, Rzeszów. It will be a smart move to destroy all NATO weapons, that are concentrated in a single place. That means that the war could be escalated very easy.

By the way who’s sending billions of dollars / rubles to Russia in military aid like they got between 40 and 45?
Do you think it was a goodwill gesture? USA sold this military aid to Soviet Union. Soviet Union and Russia later paid off the debt. I think last payment was in 2006.

Pretty much, if you can meet the requirements, you're in. I do not agree to grading on a curve or lowering the requirements because of divarication. Like I said, the only color in the military is green to fight for the red, white and blue.

all of wars are "defensive" for all parties. Russian invasion is also defensive oriented! USA says that Iraq is developing chemical weapons, but in the reality, USA captures Iraq oil fields and make money.... Typical "defensive" invasion.

We should have kept the oil fields. Gas in the US would be cheaper today if we had.

Nato was not dissolved because of what you are seeing today. You can't trust russia. What threat on their borders? Are you saying the mighty bear is afraid of Ukraine? Nato is a defensive origination that countries have to meet certain requirements to join. Nato does not push countries to join. They join of their own free will.

Yingyang writes: "But the reluctance to see America as a target."

It is a real challenge in the USA. After the 9/11 era, much of the USA went back to pre-9/11 thinking. Despite 9/11/2001 and COVID-19, most U.S. cities and especially security analysts (who you would think WOULD be concerned) view USA as largely untouchable. The perspective is that 9/11 was decades ago, and Russia is just too weak to nuke USA cities off the planet. Part of the NatSec problem is believing their own Information Warfare. It is one thing to tell the public "managed truth," it is yet another to start believing it yourself. And the latter is what has happened; they are believing their own echo chamber.

And security preparedness for overwhelming majority of USA is totally non-existent They would be disturbed about COVID-19, but the all-controlling political media organized to tell you how and what to think has now decided to change the narrative back to "political exestential crises" and ignoring all those people how died as "old news," and (well, "mostly old people so who cares"). The current USA political existential crisis is whether Elon Musk buys Twitter. The "preparedness" concern is what new social media site to go to if Musk successfully buys Twitter. That's the USA status.

Remember this is a USA where the White House official website has the term "existential" (e.g., crisis) more than 225 times. So any actual existential crisis has no oxygen for discussion.

Still waiting for who invaded Russia.
So does this mean because Russia’s believed it necessary to invade Ukraine the Baltic’s should be expecting a special military operation anytime soon?
The Soviet Union fell, they Lost. If somehow Russia wants to revisit all that then more power to them.

NATO is a defensive alliance that many past soviet states (Willingly) applied to to join. Why? because evidently for good reason they did not and do not trust Russia as it is led by the likes of putin whos butt hurt his USSR collapsed under its own weight and inefficiencies.

Good they paid it back didn’t have to make the loan though.

Explain this to me who has nuclear capable intermediate range ballistic missile with in 5O0 miles of virtually every European capital and has had for almost two decades.
If nato is a threat to Russia then the Iskander missiles are every European capital.

I think you will find very few people on here who believe the US is untouchable. In fact, most of recognize just how vulnerable we really are, but when we try to convince others of that, we are largely ignored.

I used to post almost daily updates on the threat of Covid on my Facebook feed. Then people wanted to be "so over covid" so I stopped.

Nuclear war is no different. Neither is a terrorist nuke in an American city. I don't know when it will happen, I just know that with the current state of affairs, it will. And people will act shocked.

Agree with you completely. But I think the genpop has no clue.

And there you go with the special deterrence option.
Already been said here multiple times by multiple members the idea of the us handling of the in Iraq and Afghanistan wars was not right.

It is out right false to say “all” wars are defensive.
You Cross the boarder and start attacking with no provocation other than your adversary doesn’t agree or submit to your will is and always will be an aggressive action.
I’m sorry the country of Ukraine the Baltic’s Poland Romania Czecha and a others rejected Soviet hegemony.
They don’t want Russia. Hegemony either.
But they did and the are still. Russia trying to revist this like some historic injustice is falling on deaf ears.

Thoughts?
I think it is smart. NYC is closer than Washington DC in terms of hypersonic missile range from Russia; from Moscow - it is 4666 versus 4860 miles. But you would have to expect both DC and NYC areas would be targets. Nothing like that in the DC areas. They don't care if we die around here. (Sorry, that might sound crude, but it is true.)
And it seems like this was done by NY/NJ Port Authority, if the logo on the bottom right is what I think it is. Like the continued caution at NYC airports, at least someone is using their head in New York for a change. (After COVID spreads mainly from NYC and 1M dead Americans later... but hey, better late than never, I guess)

ah, there were times when russians think that. We really believed, that NATO is a defensive organization. Even Putin asked Russia to join NATO. I think it was in 2000... Unfortunatelly, those times are gone.
Russia can't trust USA and NATO. You keep ignoring any agreement. Expanded NATO to the east. Create military bases in eastern europe. You know, a NATO base means a USA military base. Cruise missiles, nuclear charges are deployed on those bases. It is a not acceptable for Russia. Why NATO just not remove all bases from eastern europe? Putin asked to do that before the invasion. NATO ignored him.

No point in preparing a population in a major city center, no one will survive in the cities, and especially the capital. If you can afford to pre-evacuate that is pretty much your only plan to survive.

because there is a lot of pro-russian people.
Wow there are some pretty large Russian populations in the US should we be expecting a visit.
That is not a reason on invade and seize part of another nation.
Do better be honest you believe Russia should take Odessa thus depriving Ukraine or a black see port.

Let’s talk about Kaliningrad. Were there a lot of Russians there prior or during its existence of a a Prussian nation?
Would you trade Kaliningrad for Odessa and Mariupol?
