The bigger the secret, the harder it is to keep.
If a secret that massive, that important to humans (the knowledge that there's life out there) I guarantee it would be leaked.
Also, why the hell wouldn't the government tell people!? I can think of a million good things that would happen if we found intelligent life. First of all, word peace. World leaders would quickly realise there are bigger fish to fry than each other. This means humongous military budgets can now be allotted to other stuff.

If I, a government official, had the ability to shave off 2% of GDP off of my budget, I would leap at it with both hands.

I can also think of a million reason why no government would ever admit that there are 'things' moving around their airspace, that defy basic understanding, and who can, at will - as testified by a number of high ranking former military officials - activate and deactivate our most destructive weapons systems. Such an admission - especially by the preeminent military power on Earth - would be politically and socially disastrous.
 
Also, what's more likely? That aliens are here or that there are perfectly reasonable explanations for weird things people see?
It's simply that we don't know the perfectly reasonable explanation for some weird things some people have seen/recorded. There could be a multitude of different things that cause a weird thing, now jumping straight to "ALIENS!" seems illogical.
Surely there are more probable explanations than ET.

When I read the Bible, there are several excerpts that make me think
to aliens:
The vision of Ezekiel's chariot,
appearances of angels,
Giants,
the raptures into heaven (Moses, Elijah, Jesus)...
the wonders...

Of all living beings, why only humans
have evolved quite intelligent and no Older Others
(rats?).

Exactly. As gigantic as the universe is, there's no way there's not another planet somewhere with life on it. And UFO's have been declassified to some extent by the government.
 
You can debate about life elsewhere not on earth all you want here. But please do not post conspiracy theories about aliens... Thanks.

One thing you have omitted. What if any contact or arraignment with an alien species has not been formalized and discussions held as to why they are here and how it’s all going to work.

If it is one big nebulous of unexplained sightings and incidents with governments and military just like individuals. This would not be something most gov would want to have to admit readily. The whole we’re not In control thing.

Steven Hawking warned that actively trying to make contact with aliens might not be a great idea. There is no guarantee we would be reaching out to the “Federation of Planets” or the “Empire”.
It would be wishful thinking to assume with anything close to certainty that any alien race encountered would be a benevolent species that we are.

So all that said I have no idea won’t be surprised with way.
 
The surest sign that there is intelligent life out there is that they have stayed the hell away from here. It may have been said as a joke, but it rings true, especially now.
 
There is a finite number of combinations that atoms can be arranged in. In a universe vast enough there is certain to be atoms arranged solely by chance in the exact same combination as somewhere else in space-time. Quite possibly you or I exist elsewhere far enough away at the same time because of this finite number and the universe being so inconceivably large. Due to the expanding universe there is a cosmic event horizon closing in on us everyday where other objects in the universe will forever be out of reach barring someway of FTL travel, space curving wormholes or things not yet predicted therefore it is unlikely you would ever encounter these duplicatesif they exist at all. Yes aliens are near certainly to exist somewhere in this immense space-time.

I think there is life outside our planet.

I'm not a complotist tho, think that the aliens are already here and such.

i'm more thinking that it's obvious that with the amount of planet existing, there is life somewhere, even if it's just a planet with a civilisation that can't yet access to space, or even animal life without "sentient" being ( such as earth before the arrival of humans )
