DN, you don't think we turn their fleet into coral reefs?
I think we will. But I don't think China assumes this. Once again US has been to ambiguitous about a situation which leaves plenty of room for China to as the phrase goes "test those waters" without (at least to their thinking) lead to US military intervention.

A good way to avoid all of this is if we took a hard stance and finaly say what we mean. Draw the line. China will not attack/blockade if it knows for certain it would lead to conflict with the US.

It's the US ambiguity that will lead to a war no one really wants. We need to be clearer.

I think we would be more clear if the administration were more cozy with the calculations from our war games. Coming up on an election year...... DN may be right, CCP may wait till Autumn and blockade and put the pressure on DC.

But will the US go to war over a blockade? I understand that they would if Taiwan gets invaded, and I see no way China to do it that way ( they would need to be able to put 100k troops within 48 hours on the beaches, and then later secure the logistics )

A invasion or a blockade would end in the same result as to why the US military would intervene *semiconductors*. A blockade or invasion is the same level of provocation to the US because of it.

In both cases we end up losing somthing entiely vital for everyday life itself to continue, function, and grow. A blockade would be a act a war against the US in pretty much everyway given our almost entire dependence on semiconductors for everyday life for EVERY American and no different if it where a invasion.

A blockade is legally a casus belli. The US would break the blockade with force. If China remains intransigent it would be war.
The US, at this time, WILL not allow Formosa and the Republic of China to be blockaded.

A blockade is Taiwans biggest weakness, and causes the US to choose if it wants to be the aggressor or not. ( With the international problems that follows )
The US CANNOT be the aggressor if China imposes a blockade. All Blockades, quarantines, total exclusion areas etc are acts of war.

Fighters would be there in hours (possibly minutes ie less then 120 minutes)
So you think, after China official declared ( or unofficially block the first ships/airplanes ) the US will hit them with Fighter Airplanes within the next 2 hours?

Edit

Blockades have been overcome by other means before.

How long would a forcefull response from the US take?
I answered the above question. Not the following:

You asked how long to get a “forceful response” to Formosa.
•We have Airbases is in the northern Philippines-Approximately 350 miles away.
•We have air bases in Okinawa. It’s approximately 500 miles away.

Both of these are short(ish) flights in a fighter.

The US Navy may have carriers or “Harrier Carriers” F-35B’s (Jump Jets on Marine helicopter carriers) in the area which would reduce a “forceful response” time to minutes.

Can China, through internal saboteurs, hit the semi-conductor plants, create fear & chaos and get the populace to cede to Chinese unification?
This is what scares me. China has already made it clear that genocide is an available tool to get what they want, so who's to say they don't "re-educate" the Taiwanese population in the event of a successful takeover.

We have China pretty much surrounded with military troops and hardware. Here is a graph that illustrates it. If they start a war they're going to take allot of damage to their infrastructure!

Question.....could you rely on a 100% allied response/involvement?
I dunno 5 eyes 100% yes, 9 eyes 75%, depending on how the defence pact is working/formulated for Korea, Japan, Philipines, Thailand because if they dont get attacked why would they get involved, but they will help somewhat the US ( as partners ) 50% NATO only if the US gets attacked ( you saw that in the 2nd Iraq war where only the 9 eyes + some partners helped )
