We won’t because it is not the goal to attack or destroy head on. This I beloved totally was referring to your posit of a expanded war directly between Russia, China and they West.
It has not not ever was the intent of nato nations to invade and conquer Russia.
Russia lost in Chechnya the first War.Russia has never won a war in which they initiated the conflict. Yes against Georgia and Chechnya they won. But those were overwhelming odds. And they had to resort to scorched earth in Chechnya.
Before WW2 the standing US military was smaller than the standing army of Portugal. So readiness is not always a proven indicator of a nations ability to respond to a major conflict.
It is true that the US is definitely divided regarding foreign wars right now. But it is impossible to predict how the US for one would respond.
Their is a significant portion of Americans who would be willing to responded to a significant new military attack with a strategic nuke on said nations capital and call it even. That’s not the correct response of course.
I’m only saying don’t confuse current readiness with response.
I will also again point out That a million man army is useless if they dont have the logistics to move them in a timely.

As a Lifelong military man I understand the importance of never underestimating your enemy or holding them in contempt. But Russia is making it really hard not to acknowledge that they look like idiots.
They have demonstrated less then zero mastery of military arts. Frankly I didn’t think that was possible, but apparently it is.
Russia can’t take a near defenseless Ukraine, they would have their ass handed to them by the US or worse NATO. Its just not possible to rate them as anything other then a weak regional power conventionally. Of course they can always end their existence, maybe ours too and thats definitely worth remembering.

Agree first offensive failed for reasons we won't agree on but that aside and some beliefs of current situation, I'm surprised Russia is holding the current territory they gained since. Still , not over yet. Hopefully it ends without nukes. From either side meaning west vs Russia.

I’m ok with that. THEY WANT TO FIGHT. They are not going gently into that good night. If we can help them get their land and children back, Im all for it. Everyday Russia is weaker. Even if they mobilized and fielded several enormous Armies it would still be, as of now, about 200,000 less. It will take them 20 years to build up their equipment again. Even if they win, the Russians are screwed.
This removes a potential enemy from the board when we fight China. Its going to be big, eclipsed only by WW2. We are going to get mauled. We need every advantage we can get. So help a desperate people fight off a marauding bunch of assholes whilst weakening an adversary and getting some real weapons testing in. Its win-win / lose-lose (US UA Rus PRC)

Why won’t the ruskies just join us? Honestly? Both our nations follow the Anglo-Saxon mission, it’s somewhat logical. The entire world will be speaking mandarin and Cantonese by 2100 if we don’t stop China.
There was a time Russia was very close to joining NATO. But once Putin came to power he had different plans obviously. AKA wanting to cos-play the Soviet Union.
