Not a source but I believe that most in Russia viewed him only favorably when he is filling their useful idiot role they rely on so heavily. Trump seems to finally want to deal with this perception issue and is trying to distance himself from being viewed positively in Russia.

The mistake is in thinking he’s against Ukraine. He’s against the war in general, it’s an intransigent conflict with competing causes and miss steps by both sides. But if Putin delays coming to the table too much longer Trump will have no other recourse but increase the pressure.
Here’s the problem to do this we can increase military weapons and that will help in the short run. Ukraine alone does not have the manpower or time to flesh out a modern networked fighting force of tank battalions pilots and field commanders in order to deal a deviating blow to Russias man power.
In ww2 the battle of Kursk was three months long. The Soviets suffered 800000 casualties with over 1/4 million dead or MIA. That is russias willingness to suffer losses. 1/4 million Dead in three months.
Things like this are real tangible inputs into the outcome of battle.
So weapons alone won’t do the job.
We can send more ATTCAMs and intermediate range artillery and even provide satellite targeting. But to what end. NATO does not possess enough cruise missiles to enable Ukraine to knock enough Russian military and many facilities offline.
We’re not going to give Ukraine anything more destructive than ATTCAMs and Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
That leaves sending in NATO troops or at a minimum nato flown attack fighters.
I’ll say it “send them”. But even the most vocal Ukraine supporter here won’t second that option.
So we negotiate but before that happens German better find another source for 25% of their continued hydrocarbon imports which is still coming from Russia.
Trumps colluding with Putin while Germany is still buying natural gas from Russia, I call bullshit
Oh and those gas imports to German are passing through the Port of Dunkirk in France. So double Bullshit !

Russia does have a recruitment problem, is it bad enough to impact the outcome. I have no idea.
Listening to a VSHanson podcast and he remarked that he suspected Putin is delaying and significant negotiations just long enough so it doesn’t appear he’s heading Trump whistling him to do what he says. That and looking for another significant military gain he can highlight and call the whole thing a win. Might be right.
