Russia eyes Ukraine’s ‘fortress belt’ after fall of Chasiv Yar

Ukraine’s woes mount with a deadly assault on Kyiv, capture of an eastern city and difficult battle in the north.

During a difficult week in Ukraine’s ground war, Russian troops completed their conquest of Chasiv Yar, a high ground in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, and claimed to have breached the outskirts of Kupiansk, a city with a pre-war population of more than 26,000, in Ukraine’s northern Kharkiv region.

White House says Trump is ‘open’ to talks with Putin and Zelenskyy

The White House has said that United States President Donald Trump is “open” to the idea of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In remarks on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Russian officials had expressed interest in meeting with Trump. Leavitt did not say when or where such a meeting could take place, but AP quoted an anonymous White House official saying the meeting could happen within a week.

Italy will spend 13.5 billion euros to connect Sicily to the mmainland Europe via the world's largest suspension bridge.

“Italy’s grand plan to meet NATO target: A €13.5B bridge to Sicily”

Remarkable how Italian politicians think they can deal with their partners the same way they deal with their citizens.

Just to clarify...this is sci-fi...it's been 90 years that the italian politicians are speaking about building this bridge (that nobody wants), and it's gonna be 90 more years without that bridge. It's just internal propaganda...Meloni's govt is supported by 3 major forces that are fighting against each other to keep their electoral base.
It has been approved countless times...and stopped due to combinations of technical issues, nature, money and more importantly courts orders.

Russia is now more committed to a ceasefire, but the main thing is that they do not deceive us and the US, — Zelensky after Witkoff's visit to Moscow

Trump: "My Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, just had a highly productive meeting with Russian President Putin. Great progress was made. Afterwards, I updated some of our European Allies. Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come"

White House official: Secondary sanctions on Russia expected on Friday

The White House has fervently denied claims made today by the Kremlin, that they have agreed upon a time and place for a meeting between U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with officials stating that Trump will only meet with Putin if he also agrees to a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The White House on Thursday pushed back on claims by the Kremlin that a meeting between President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin had been agreed to with a location secured.

A White House official told ABC News that no location has been set and that President Putin must meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the meeting with Trump to occur -- something the Kremlin has not been willing to commit to so far.

Putin adviser Yuri Ushakov said earlier Thursday that a "meeting between Putin and Trump (will take place) in the coming days," adding that "work on the summit has now begun," the Kremlin said.

Ushakov said that White House special envoy Steve Witkoff had raised the idea of a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump and Zelenskyy but that the upcoming meeting would only be between Trump and Putin, the Kremlin said.
A White House official said on Wednesday a bilateral meeting between Trump and Putin could happen as soon as next week.

Trump himself was less committal when asked about the potential for a meeting between him and Putin, saying he's been "disappointed before" but that there was "very good prospect" of a summit between Putin and Zelenskyy.
