🔊 White House envoy claims Russia agreed to ‘Article 5-like’ security guarantees for Ukraine

  • Details of President Donald Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin remain minimal days after their talks.
  • Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said that the U.S. got a “concession” from Putin that “the United States could offer Article Five-like protection, which is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to be in NATO.”
  • Witkoff’s comments come just before Trump is set to meet in Washington with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelensky speaks in Brussels before leaving for the U.S. & the meeting between himself, European leaders & Trump

Key points:- Ukraine won’t withdraw from Donetsk
- European unity is crucial
- A quick end to the war is a must
- If Putin refuses the Trump-Zelensky-Putin meeting, sanctions must be placed on Russia

The White House has denied NPR's information about documents found on a printer in a hotel with information about the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska.

Oh ffs.
It’s was a copy of the press briefing packet left there more than likely by a member of the Press.
And shock of all things it include the luncheon menu.
Maybe this is what the president of NPR meant when she said the facts don’t always reflect “the truth”

But hey I know WH denied it, because they denied the implication sensitive documents were accidentally left on a hotel printer.
Pretty sure the menu for lunch would not be included in state secrets documents.
If this can’t be sussed out as cognitive bias verses critical thinking don’t know what to tell you

It will be interesting to see how Zelensky is welcomed at the WH. Full honors, slipped in the back door or something in between.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy:
"I have already arrived in Washington, tomorrow I am meeting with President Trump. Tomorrow we are also speaking with European leaders. I am grateful to @POTUS for the invitation. We all share a strong desire to end this war quickly and reliably. And peace must be lasting. Not like it was years ago, when Ukraine was forced to give up Crimea and part of our East—part of Donbas—and Putin simply used it as a springboard for a new attack. Or when Ukraine was given so called “security guarantees” in 1994, but they didn't work. Of course, Crimea should not have been given up then, just as Ukrainians did not give up Kyiv, Odesa, or Kharkiv after 2022. Ukrainians are fighting for their land, for their independence. Now, our soldiers have successes in Donetsk and Sumy regions. I am confident that we will defend Ukraine, effectively guarantee security, and that our people will always be grateful to President Trump, everyone in America, and every partner and ally for their support and invaluable assistance. Russia must end this war, which it itself started. And I hope that our joint strength with America, with our European friends, will force Russia into a real peace. Thank you!"

Putin is demanding that Ukraine withdraw troops from the unoccupied part of the Donetsk region as a condition for freezing the war.
This feels like 1938 Czechoslovakia all over again and Donetsk is a modern day Sudetenland. Not sure how I feel about appeasing Vladolf Putler. Oops I mean Vladimir Putin.

The offices of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von de Leyen, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said they would travel to Washington on Monday to meet with Trump. They will be joined by French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, according to Reuters.

Huge delegation. VERY unusual to see this many allied leaders in one room.

There’s a zero percent chance Ukraine agrees to giving up Donetsk. If it falls, they no longer have a defensive line they’ve spent a decade building and Putin will march through the rest of Ukraine. Czechoslovakia had zero choice in the matter, Ukraine has complete control especially since Europe will keep arming them even if the U.S. stops since they basically already have.

The White House has reportedly removed the NATO flag from the briefing room for today's European summit.

When asked why it was removed - a white house staffer says they "did not want to annoy the Russians"...

NOTE:
Cannot verify this yet. Its a twitter OSINT account so the credibility is less than sub-par and of course like most OSINT accounts they do not list their source..... making my job harder... always.

Trump writes that Ukraine won’t get Crimea back or be able to join NATO
The NATO thing was never going to happen. Not a chance NATO would ever agree to let Ukraine in.

As much as it would stick it to Russia to have Ukraine in, it was never realistic.
