Trump - Zelensky Meeting in Washington

Last time Volodymyr Zelensky was in the Oval Office, a reporter asked why he wasn’t wearing a suit. This time, according to a European official and another person also involved in planning the summit, the White House has asked that he don a suit and tie.

Zelensky to Fox News: It is impossible to cede any Ukrainian territory to Russia.
I question why Zelensky is even wasting his time going to the White House. The gap between the U.S. and Ukraine’s position is so wide they’re not going to be able to bridge it. We all know this is gonna end with the White House saying they give up on trying to solve the conflict, Ukraine continuing to fight, and Europe continuing to take over arming them.

BREAKING: Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed why he met with European and NATO leaders at the Ukrainian embassy in Washington ahead of talks with Donald Trump.

Zelensky:
"Our main goal is a reliable and lasting peace for Ukraine and for the whole of Europe. And it is important that the momentum of all our meetings lead to precisely this result. We understand that we shouldn't expect Putin to voluntarily abandon aggression and new attempts at conquest. That is why pressure must work, and it must be joint pressure – from the United States and Europe, and from everyone in the world who respects the right to life and the international order.

We must stop the killings, and I thank our partners who are working toward this and ultimately toward a reliable and dignified peace. Together with the leaders of Finland, the United Kingdom, Italy, the European Commission, and the NATO Secretary General, we coordinated our positions ahead of the meeting with President Trump. Ukraine is ready for a real truce and for establishing a new security architecture. We need peace."

As usual more comes out with time.
One of the sticking points for Ukraine as it should be is security guarantees.
And while NATO membership for Ukraine remains a hard NO.
Everyone speaks of NaTO membership as only being opposed to by Russia. And Trump being the only impediment in nato to it.
as of last fall seven nations including Belgium Germany Spain and US opposed Ukraine joining nato. Even this summer five oppose it.

Yet all we hear. is Trumps opposition.

Yet now after the Alaska meeting it is being revealed Russia is not opposed to security guarantees for Ukraine from the US and a few other nato members.

Guarantees up to and including use of military force to defend Ukraine if attacked again.
Granted the proof will be in the details and positioning of forces and those remain unknown.
We shall see but it is certainly not a situation of complete capitulation to Putin.

As far as Russia not giving up the eastern provinces. Which is how it is so customarily portrayed as that alone.
It is an exchange of occupied territories by both parties. This again is not at all an unusual circumstance in negotiated settlements.

That Zelinski, publically at least, is still demanding not giving up anything is more of a stumbling block to an end that what apparently Putin is willing to offer.

I would say if one is adamantly opposed to Ukraine conceding anything. It might be time to ruck up and book a flight to Ukraine post haste.
I’m not personally happy Ukraine might have to concede anything. But I’m also a realist and I see no scenario where no matter how much money and arms we give to Ukraine that they will be able to drive Russia out.

If someone can show that Ukraine can still drive Russia out. Up to and including flooding NATO troops to the frontlines next week. I’m all ears

Ukraine is definitely going to have to give up territory but giving up your defensive line to a country who routinely breaks agreements is signing your own death warrant no matter the security guarantee.
