United States Says Iran Is Attempting to Rebuild Its Nuclear Weapons Programme.

Déjà vu, according to US statements in June 2026,
the Iranian nuclear program had been completely destroyed for decades. For several years, the US has been bombarding us with
"Iran will obtain nuclear weapons next week," they've been saying for several weeks now.

I call bs. Iran isn't after a nuclear weapon. Israel and America have made this claim way to long. Just adds to the other bs about it being destroyed . Just like the terrorist bs when sunni is the issue funded and supplied as suits. Not Shia. Pakistan is more a issue than iran. But pakistan has nukes 🤣😂🤣

If Iran is not after nuclear weapons, why are they enriching uranium to the extent they are? Why are they wasting all that time, money, resources, people, etc? Why do they risk getting bombed over it? What do they gain from enrichment that's not for weapons?

Power low carbon for electricity.
Power for nuclear powered subs/ships.
Medical
Science etc etc many reasons available many uses besides weapons.

They want independance from Russia that supplies the Uranium for the civil use reactor I think. And I don´t think it would be a problem if it was only up to 20% ( if they where advanced reactors ) with transparency of what its used for. Enriching it and hiding transparency is clearly meant to pressure for concessions, or going for nukes, and they have the same view on the west like North Korea, and we know how that went.

I wish @FriendlyEngineer was still here to help us understand purposes behind highly enriched uranium (HEU). I think he would provide better clarity than I ever could. Never-the-less, here goes....

From what I found, these use cases are exceedingly rare. But for HEU, let's take these point by point.
  • Power low carbon for electricity:
    • There seems to be no use case for uranium enrichment beyond 20%.
    • Quoting this source, "Uranium enriched to concentrations above 0.7% but less than 20% uranium-235 is defined as low enriched uranium (LEU). Most civil and commercial nuclear reactors use LEU that is about 3-5% uranium-235."
  • Power for nuclear subs & ships:
    • According to Google AI, it does seem that HEU is used "to fuel compact reactors in nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers due to the need for high power output in a small space and the desire to avoid frequent refueling."
    • Iran does not have a nuclear navy (in fact they barely have a navy).
    • If this is Iran's use case, why not say so?
    • But this begs the question about Iran's naval doctrine (if it is declared anywhere). Does Iran need nuclear powered craft with infrequent refueling to project power far from its shores?
  • Medical:
    • There is some validity to this use case.
    • According to Google AI, "HEU is used to produce molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), which decays into technetium-99m (Tc-99m), an isotope widely used in medical imaging and diagnostics. Iran has claimed that its enrichment program, in part, supports domestic production of medical isotopes for the Tehran Research Reactor."
    • Interestingly, Cuba, which is often touted as having a great medical system, does not use HEU. Again, according to Google AI, "Based on available reports, Cuba does not have Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) for its research facilities. The country has focused on developing nuclear technology for medicine and industry using Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) and, in compliance with international efforts, has aimed to keep its research reactors free of HEU."
    • Cuba proves that you can have a decent medical program with nuclear medicine that does not use HEU and remains in compliance with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
  • Science:
    • According to Google AI, "many civil research and test reactors, often found in universities or research centers worldwide, use HEU fuel. Higher enrichment levels allow for more compact reactors and higher neutron flux for experiments. "
    • However, Google AI also notes that "Efforts are ongoing globally to convert these reactors to use low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel to minimize proliferation risks."
    • So if the global community is converting to LEU (i.e. LEU is the future of compact research reactors), why wouldn't Iran follow suit?
As discussed above, the use cases for Iran's need for HEU are marginal. Other nations provide quality medical services and scientific research for their people without it. So if other countries can succeed without it, why does Iran feel the need to starve its people, divert resources from other domestic programs, and put the lives of their scientific community at risk for marginal use cases that Iran can succeed without?

There are no civilian uses at that level.
Ultimately though, what he said... 👆

Then why are they enriching uranium past the point -- much past the point -- of civilian use?
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not been in Iran since June 2025. Absolutely no one can confirm what the US has been claiming (only Iran knows) recently. In January 2026, the stated reason for an attack on Iran was for the people. Only 20% of the American people support an attack. The latest US statements have an electioneering flavor; oops, I mentioned politics...

This narrative seems to leave out findings from Israeli intelligence, which based on the Iran strikes in 2025, Israeli intelligence proved to be quite effective and accurate.

Apparently not considering such a fast recovery? I mean this is one of a few reasons included for such military response . Someone lied about decades set back or someone else has accused the US of lie.

I thought israeli intel was more effecient than iaea 😉🤣😂🤣
Obviously.

I was refuting the statement below, not supporting the effectiveness of the strikes.

From what I've seen, there is general disagreement on the effectiveness of the strikes. But there were parties other than the US involved in assessing Iran's HEU stockpile. Additionally, I have not seen anything from Iran refuting they have HEU.

I modified my previous post to clarify that I meant Israeli intelligence was effective and accurate (as opposed to the airstrikes).
