Idaho air show horror after 2 jets crash in front of frightened spectators

Two jets crashed in midair at an air show in Idaho on Sunday, forcing the air base to be locked down.

The two Navy Super Hornets/Growlers were taking part in the Gunfighters Air Show at the Mountain Home Air Force Base, some 50 miles southeast of Boise, when they crashed, KTVB reported.

Pictures from the scene show a huge plume of black smoke pouring into the sky following the crash, which happened on the second day of the air show.

Organizers, the Mountain Home Gunfighters, confirmed that the base was on lockdown in a statement posted on social media.

No further details have been given about the circumstances behind the crash or the reported casualty numbers.

It looks like one of the pilots eject chair parachute didn't open and landed on the burning wreck... Or it could of been the window from ejection. To hard to tell.

Good. They all made it out okay. Well. Not dead at least. I'm sure they have to have some injuries...

Just the ejection itself can cause some serious harm to body. Talking major instantaneous G's and possibly being flown into debris...

Yes the spinal whiplash from vertical acceleration and then the jolt when the parachute opens then the impact through the body on landing. I know this personally but cannot elaborate due to official agreements. I also know just how bad using a parachute is so I wish them all the best for future spinal health. Hope they have a good physio as there was a lot of exercises I had to do to ease the spinal compression on nerve root exits. Still get intermittent back pains especially on cold days which is why I really like living in a warm climate.

Two of the crew probably hit the other aircraft or debris generated between them. (Mostly debris there was self generated and captured in between them)

Frankly from the footage publicly available so far I don’t see how one of crew members got out at all. There was literally a heartbeat between the quick and the dead. Only briefings, briefings, briefings, and training training training where all these decisions points were made in advance, kept them alive.

I was mostly afraid they would fall into an entegetic post crash location (the fire and razor sharp aluminum and magnesium edges (please insert “whatever alloy” ) and the Electrical wires. Did I mention all of the wires?
